Locks

Post by Suggett66 » 01 Oct 2014, 12:50

I just found out that only 1 person has access to a lock that you place which is insanity considering the fact this game is meant to be played with people. They should have it so you can make a key mold for each lock (much like the mold for the anvil) and then make keys for a certain lock in order for your towns folk to access their town. This is only bad because what happens if the person who can access the locks can't come on or stops coming on, then what?

While this would be more realistic and I would actually enjoy that mechanic many would cry over it as then griefers could kill you, take your key and have access to all of your locked objects.

That is not greifing, that is called a clever game mechanic and it would give you more of a reason to go out armed as to protect the key and in turn protect the access to your town.

Bandit kills villager while he is carrying a log.

Bandit loots villager and takes gate key. :(

Bandit grins.

Bandit logs off.

Villagers spend four hours trying to find the bandit and making dozens of posts in the forums about how much this game sucks because they lost their key. :Search:

Bandit logs in late that night. 8-)

Bandit loots village. :Yahoo!:

Villagers log in to find a single moose head in their storage.

Villagers can't change the locks and spend four more hours making furious posts. :O:

Moral of the story? Leave the main gate open unless the village is under attack. Have each villager build a secure warehouse for their own stuff.

You give bandits too much credit and under estimate the villages! What happened to the sandbox features of the game? Usually players decide how a mechanic is being used ingame. Some players will be clever, store the key in the secured warehouse or under the doormat.

Why would the devs spend time to add a multi-user house and then abandon their original thought with a lock that cancels the multi-user function.?

I think they could make it so if you place a lock in the build window when making a chest, house or any storage device/building then make it claimable and if you don't place a lock in the build window then it's not claimable. And yes no point in making craftable keys as they are making a group/sharing function
