In my opinion, if you are not interested in project personally for reasons beyond getting it cheaper then wait till it done and buy during Steam sales.
If you are interested in improving general situation with games developed by indie studios then just look at what you can reasonably spend. I personally look into it as a form of charity
Specifically for this game - big part of user base are people who support development of MMO, that is the purpose of LIF:YO to begin with.
Is it worth 29.9$? I already have more than 60 hours in it, which is rare for me this days. But you need to be into sanbox/survival/people interaction theme.
Actually, Steam takes 40% of the independant studios pricetag. The 30% is for big AAA production companies like EA and Bethesda. So it's best to buy it from the website. Sure Humble Bundle takes their cut, but it's no where near Steam and you still get a Steam key.

- Combat system is broken
- Pvp doesn't exist
- Gathering, harvesting is all you do, and it's tedious and boring
- Skill tree is illogical, not finished, half implemented, broken
- If you think you're going to build your own village, be prepared to farm stones and woods and flax for hundreds of hours.
- Be informed that all the harvesting and gathering process consist of a loading bar in the middle of your screen which can last a few seconds for cutting a tree, to 2 fucking minutes to get 1 carrot. The actions aren't properly measured.
- Economy isn't developped, this game is about collectivism and generosity.
- Roleplay is hard to find because no pvp, and people are losing their time farming ressources.
- You can't deconstruct what you built, or you'll need the services of a game master
- Terraforming and digging tunnels is working, but it's so tedious, uncomfortable, bugs...
- Bugs are everywhere, and they aren't fixed
Guessed that you missed that it is an early alpha. This is a REAL early alpha. I don't blame you, since companies have been charging for early access labeling something an alpha or beta, but it's really a 10% short of a full release.
As for the rest:
-Yes, combat is broken. They stated as much. It's silly to complain that something is broken when they stated as much.
-There IS PvP. I've had it. Got a head wound, two leg wounds, and a foot wound. Friend of mine got a bleeding chest wound that killed him... eventaully.
-It's a medieval life simulator... what did you expect?
-See the first statement
-Ditto
-Um... ditto on that ditto
-HEY something new... oh... see second statement.
-Back to see first statement
-Well same for the last two.
As you can see, this is a REAL alpha. I've logged 92 hrs and can't wait to log in again. The scale and depth this has as this early (remember: this game isn't even a Gig. Most games are 20 Gb) is nothing short of amazing. If you want to get in on the ground floor of a great game, please take the dive. Just remember: these waters are not safe. In game or the game code. You will get glitches, drops, bugs, locks, disconnects, and every sort of pain that you get from an alpha.
Is it worth it? HELL YES!
These guys created a masterpiece in less than 1Gb.
Imagine what they can do with another 19 Gb.
