What is the best way to secure loot?

Post by Chili » 05 Oct 2014, 11:59

Hello everyone. So my buddy and I were raided for the first time last night. We have been furiously trying to build a lockable house but we are still a bit away from completion.

My question is this.

What do you guys think the best way to protect your loot from thieves is?

This game is such a grind it sucks to lose your stuff to looters.

Thanks,
Chili

The best suggestion I have is to stuff as much as you can into your inventory when you log out.
Other than that, try stacking a few logs on top of each under under a thick foiliaged tree and place chests inside the trees foliage. You just need to re-stack logs and hop up. Bit difficult, but possible.

edit: Such as under an apple tree or mulberry tree.

Can you lock chests? Also I heard chests were bugged.

Okay so that's not much better than just hiding a bag I guess. Thanks though.

Any other ideas??

Dig hole, drop items, fill hole. Dig hole again to retrieve.

Currently, the best way to safely keep your materials is to log out with them. The second best option is to build a small wooden or small plaster house, as these houses can be claimed and kept locked at all times (must reclaim every 24 hours...duh).

The only problem with the houses is a small graphical exploit. If you put your graphics at a low setting and play around with some of the other settings, relogging near a house will eventually remove its walls from your game, allowing you to pick up materials placed in bags near the outside of walls of the house. I have recreated this a few times on my laptop, but not on my desktop. Typically, bags near the center of the small houses cannot be seen.

Every other safety option currently implemented can be exploited or is not 100% safe.

TL:DR = The current safest security options, in order, are...mule character for materials>small houses>walls.

There are a few ways, some are labor intensive, some are a bit of a pain to access, but they work.
-Easiest is to build a home with a door. Make sure the claim is up to date and you can just drop your stuff inside. No one will be able to access it unless you forget to claim the structure.
-Create a bank character (if you can make more than one character). Remember, Will is paramount for that alt.
-One is the simple pirate method. Dig a hole, drop the sack in it, bury it. Dig it up when you need to access it.
-Another way is to put it under movable objects like crates. Drop a bag, the pick up the barrel, log, or crate and use the directions to place it over the bag on the ground.
-Cut down a large oak and you can walk through the stump. Drop the sack while you are standing in the stump. If you get lucky, you may even be able to access the sack inside the stump.
-When mining, make the mine a maze and keep a map to your valuables. It doesn't deter them from taking it, but makes it damn hard to get out once they do.

Those are a few, I keep the good ones for myself.
