Server world data is corrupt after update

Post by Pedroms » 14 Oct 2014, 16:44

Hey everyone.

I'm one of the owners of a very populater LiF:YO server.

Around 10 hours ago, when the recent update was released, our server crashed. Unfortunately, I couldn't restart it since it would crash everytime for allegedly not being able to read a chunk of memory anymore.

We tried reverting to a previous world backup and it didn't work as well.

What did work was deleting the problematic memory chunk from the world data, but that removed almost all constructions from the map and caused a lot of instability.

Is anyone else having the same problem? Does anyone know any workarounds? We have had almost 20 days of hard work and progress, and losing it all would be a heartbreaking experience for our community of players.

Thanks in advance!

Also, the error we were getting while rebooting the server (reopening the dedicated server application) after the first crash reads as follows:

"The instruction at 0x00d833a1 referenced memory at 0x0001b2b1. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program"

Many thanks!

Probably was corrupted already, update just brought it to the surface. I would say any database from two patches ago is corrupted, meaning wiping after the previous patch was semi manditory.

Is there a way to recreate all the DB except the corrupted part, row 998 up to 1000 is corrupted inside the GEOID inside the DB

Can anyone shed some light
?????????????

We had stumbled upon similar problem on 2 of our official servers (#4 and #22). We're trying to figure out what is wrong ATM. Can't assure you anymore unfortunately :(

Bobik is alive ! :D

I'll tell our server host, to make backups, and I think everyone should do the same.

Thanks for the replies.

We did a server wipe and started from scratch.

Maybe it's for the best, I hope we can somehow prevent that from happening again in the future!

And thanks for actually stopping by to reply, Bobik. I imagine you developers have a lot do deal with in a daily basis and seeing you take a moment to reply in the forums means a lot.

Best of luck for you!

I know I am going to come across as a rookie here but I am trying to find a good way to backup my dedicated server. After the last update it seems to crash(application no longer responding) However when I restart server it runs okay for a few hours before the same issue happens. I am not losing in game content. I have tried to backup to test on another PC however have been unsuccessful at moving the proper files to be able to run the server with all the content on the other PC. I am not to familiar with DB work so not sure if I should export something from MariaDB or if I should just be moving some data folder from one PC to the other. Thanks all for the help.

UPDATE: Even after a clean wipe and restart, our server keeps crashing every 3-4 hours with the same error message I posted before (memory could not be read).

The logs right before the crash reads as follows:

ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.668 {00} <NOSCOPE> ServerManager::ProcessAbilityEvent() -6
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.669 {00} <NOSCOPE> WorkingFurnace::recalcTick(0.867089)
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.669 {00} <NOSCOPE> WorkingFurnace::consumeWoodForFuel()
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.670 {00} <NOSCOPE> needUnits(for full tick)=32
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.670 {00} <NOSCOPE> needUnits(for this tick)=27
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.671 {00} <NOSCOPE> WorkingFurnace::consumeWoodForFuel()
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.672 {00} <NOSCOPE> needUnits(for full tick)=32
ECHO 2014-10-15 16:28:13.672 {00} <NOSCOPE> Checking item type 324. need units of fuel 32, have fuel 3

All I can say is that maybe a furnace mechanic is broken? Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.
