Furnace crashing

Post by Derpindaisy » 14 Oct 2014, 20:23

On one of my servers everytime a furnace is used the server crashes.

ECHO 2014-10-14 15:16:49.954 {00} <NOSCOPE> WorkingFurnace::consumeWoodForFuel()
ECHO 2014-10-14 15:16:49.954 {00} <NOSCOPE> needUnits(for full tick)=32
ECHO 2014-10-14 15:16:49.954 {00} <NOSCOPE> Checking item type 324. need units of fuel 32, have fuel 29

Theres the last few lines of the log (it looks almost the same every crash)

If anyone has an idea or suggestion please let me know.

Hi guys,

I got exactly the same issue on my server hosted by Blackbox

ECHO 2014-10-14 22:13:20.524 {00} <NOSCOPE> WorkingFurnace::consumeWoodForFuel()
ECHO 2014-10-14 22:13:20.524 {00} <NOSCOPE> needUnits(for full tick)=32
ECHO 2014-10-14 22:13:20.524 {00} <NOSCOPE> Checking item type 324. need units of fuel 32, have fuel 26
ECHO 2014-10-14 22:13:20.524 {00} <NOSCOPE> After checking: consumed 1 quantity of items, 50 item units, fuel now is 76

This has been reported on the bug tracker at least twice, so the issue is known.

I think you can prevent the crash by never letting the fuel burn out, but always extinguishing it manually. Tell it to your server population, or else you'll be crashing constantly.

It does, it crashed twice for me because of Charcoal. It crashes if the last burn tick does not have enough fuel left for a full burn tick. If it doesn't crash, it probably had exactly enough on the last burn tick.

Edit: To clarify, when you extinguish a fire a partial fuel item still exists, even though you don't see it. If you later on let the fire burn out, the last tick will try to burn a partial fuel item which causes a crash. It might also happen if for example an item of coal provides a different amount of fuel units (most crafting stations require 16 fuel units per tick) than the crafting station uses.

So to prevent crashes, extinguish your fires before they run out of fuel.

I can confirm this problem. We had 5 crashes within 4 hours today and all of them had the same error log. I tried it by myself. It's easily reproducible. Please fix it fast.

Spam the global chat with warnings of letting fuel burn out. People don't know that's the reason for crashes, when they know they'll extinguish and you'll only have a few crashes per day.

I have better things to do all day :)
Either they fix this (yes yes i know its alpha, its crashy and thats okay..) or servers will just stay down.

I for one have shut down my dedicated since my time at work all day just cant be spent checking out if my server is running or not :)

Im still overly positive about this game and i cant wait til this disturbance has been dealt with.

Most server admins make sure the server is automatically restarted, I highly recommend it.
