So I've been hosting my own server for me and my friends over the past few days (hosting using the in-game method), today, after the patch I get this error (CR_Internal_DB_ERROR) when trying to load the server.

So did the new patch break the old game, which is understandable since this is an alpha, or am I just having an isolated issue?

I am having the same issue.. was even experiencing it a few hours before the patch. But, I am using Nitrado as a host so I had to submit a trouble ticket since I have no access to the core root directory. Read in another thread that you just needed to rename a database file or something of the sort to alleviate the issue, but it was from the past week.. so it might have only addressed problems with the previous patch.
