it's really not our money to say what they should do with it. But are they re-investing it into the game or not? I'd just like to KNOW.

It's their money to do what they please with it, but are we going to see a larger team now for the MMO, or will the new $ simply fund the teams current size?

I think you misunderstand me. I am not being arrogant; that is your cynicism. I am trying to appeal to the devs by reminding them that many of the members here, me being one of them, have really put a lot of time into promoting this product (so that the MMO will succeed), and now we would like an answer as to wether our efforts have payed off or not. The devs have been silent about this subject for quite a long time now, and I think it would really be a kind gesture on their part to reassure us of their success with YO, as well as new opportunities it might have afforded them.

In a way, I do feel like many of the members here 'deserve' an answer, so you are right in that aspect. But I am certainly not chasing some 'sense of entitlement'.. (LOLing)

Well you should try looking up a few words first.

Entitlement - Example:
Jezbelle wrote:...I've advocated this game to everyone, written reviews, answered questions, spending 100s of hours, and tbh am probably responsible for 100s of purchases! I'd like to hear definitively if the MMO is guaranteed at this point, or still up in the air. I was under the impression that YO was the deciding factor!...

Demanding a response because of the cited responsibility of HUNDREDS of sales.

Arrogant - Example:
Jezbelle wrote:..., and tbh am probably responsible for 100s of purchases!...

Cynical - Example:
Jezbelle wrote:I'd like to hear definitively if the MMO is guaranteed at this point...

Only cynics demand guarantees. Optimists believe it will happen. So out of the two of us, who wants a guarantee? To that point, also look up: Projection (psychological).

Thylbanus, I said you were cynical because you are believing the worst in me. I've tried to be nice - but I cannot respond to the above post, as it is an utter mess. Evidently, english is not your first language, and that's okay, but do not attempt to argue semantics with an english literature grad.

Come on you guys, give it a rest.

You know that the written would is hard to give tone, and facial expression.

Remember in communication less than 10% is actually the content the rest is tone and body language.

Anyway! the money is NOT our concern, THE GAME IS STILL IN ALPHA.

I don't really understand why you keep being so clueless. All money from LiF:YO have been confiscated by LiF QA Manager - Boris, along with all neighbourhood's cats, dogs and fish. Any issues with this, please discuss directly with him, thank you.

Let say 64k copies sold, each for 30€. The math sounds very optimistic. However you are missing one thing. Taxes. I have no idea where company is registrered, what are the regional law regulations. But I am sure that EU/locals would try to rob poor devs...

Oh man!

I really dont know what to think about you guys...

It started like "i and some other advertised, and did that pay out, so you can go on developing?" and absolutely internetlike it ended in a bitchfight! (Aye, my english sucks, never claimed to have a proper grammar or anythin, did i? Live with it guys, you get the meaning anyway)

Well, so here I'm giving my opinion:
Advertising to friends etc, payed out, whatever percentage Taxes or Steam took from then.

The MMO will still need a LOT of time. Server stabilitys issues etc, are still there i guess. Time will show how they handle it, so be patient guys.
And some people complaining: They only work on the YO version right now, others complain: They dont work enough on it!
Holy Moly people!
When they work on the YO version, like implementing, balancing, bugfixing, they get experience for the MMO or might even take it over 1:1.
People complaining about "they dont do enough", please consider: It IS an alpha stage, therefore the coding is far from perfect, and can you even make a realstic guess, how much work it was to fix. e.x. the Tanning Tub bug?
Honstly? I cant, can you?

And back again to the money.
First of all, they do not have to tell you anything at all. You bought the Product on your own risk, and have been warned about it.
Companys tend to keep their Incomes secret anyway, but if their aim was 200k or so, we can guess, they got it.
And about that crap "hopefulyl they dont use it on alkohol and ****" whatever, i think its perfectly fine, if they went to the store and bought a few Liter Wodka to celebrate (once ^^).

I personally have faith in the developers, that they will keep on their work and progression, though i hope they will be faster with some things ;) but like i said, i cant even guess how much work specific stuff needs to be done...

So, have faith in the dev team guys, stay calm and relax, they will make their statement in their own time, there is no need to bicker, provoke each other and such things.

Go and eat some cookies =)

And one last thing, i would appreciate some kind of "thank you for helping advertising our game, it was a success and development will go on as planned" ;)

OR!!!

just bring out regular patches ;) the best gratitude for a good community, is to fix stuff is not working like planned.

So i will say thank you, for fixing the tanning tubs and keep it up guys =)

I dont think this thread should be locked. Instead, they should just drop 1 line in here like " yes the MMO development was successfully funded and we will increase the size of our team". Thats all the OP asked for...

I agree there needs to be a response to this thread. They made it clear that the success of YO would determine the MMO projects hope. Well we now have YO on the market and think they should at least state they are moving forward or not.

wow wow wow, calm down
LIF:YO on the marked? XD
its and public alpha, thats all. Far away from a real product on the marked ^^

Wouldnt denie a statment as a good thing, but regular updates are even better i think ;)

And every progress made on the YO version, will be to some degree taken over in the mmo i guess.

I mean, a BIG BIG portion of the MMO features are in Yo too.
I think the biggest prob on going from yo to mmo will be the server stability, and they already stated long ago, that they are working on it (though, i think they paused it to develop on the YO version right now, which is benefical for the mmo too).

What else missing then? Primary the Guild and Claim systems and a few other things yes, but server stability and Claim/Guild system is the biggest part of the convertion(convertation? DARN ENGLISH SKILLS GOT ME ONCE AGAIN ^^), are the main factors there i guess.

So relax and give them time to respond =)

I've been paying attention to LiF, my friends and I have been full of anticipation about it for a long time.

And when they announced LiF:YO, I got worried. And then, when they announced that the fate of the MMO depends on the financial success of the YO edition, and that they may even give up on it if it doesn't bring enough money, LiF turned into this big drumroll of anticipation for me.

And I assumed that it will culminate in a big announcement as soon as the numbers start to come in, and they can estimate the bottom line.

So, I too am surprised that there's still no announcement about this. What's going on? Isn't this the big question that's on everyone's mind? Isn't this THE big question of LiF right now?

We haven't heard any big announcement from the team aside from the patchnotes.

Would be nice to have some kind of "State of the game" letters to let us know how things are going and what's to come for 2015. :)

I am very much psyched for the possibility of the MMO - LiF:YO may have run its course for me (over 150 hours played), and I will likely only check back in to test new features as they are implemented.

Until then, I will quietly wait for the MMO... and follow any news regarding the MMOs development.

Except no one seems to realize they CANNOT respond to this thread if they wanted to. To put ANYTHING down in print is tantamount to a contract. Should they respond and it not come to pass (shit happens), someone could make a legal argument (depending on country of origin) that it was a commitment from the dev team.

The only response you might get to this thread is that they cannot comment at this time. Even that would cause a shit storm for some. "I gave you ALL THIS MONEY AND YOU CAN'T COMMENT?! YOU ARE THE WORST DEVS EVARRR!!!!!!1"*rar. gnash. burst vessel.*

You know it would happen.

Sorry Thylbanus, but that is just patently untrue.

A statement as simple as, "We received a great deal of funding and plan to move forward with the MMO development, with increased resources made available by the success of LiF:YO." would be sufficient to demonstrate where they are at.

This is not a contract.

I am a law student in the United States, and although not yet a licensed attorney, I plan to practice within two years time.

Common law contract law (common to most Western states), and the Uniform Commercial Code require a contract to have a missing element in that proposition:

Consideration.

What does that mean? Each party must have agreed to provide something of value to the other for there to be a contract.

Even if they came in and said, "I promise, on the soul of my mother, my mothers mother, and all of my fathers, that I will make the MMO, and it will have everything you ever dreamed of" there would still be no contract, as we aren't providing anything in return.

Nothing they say here will open them to legal liability.

You know what would?
lif-yo-owners-will-receive-some-premium-currency-in-lif-mmo-t1941/

Premium currency for purchasers of LiF:YO.

In the United States, they are already bound to the specific performance of providing individuals with the premium currency in the MMO.

But why does none of this matter?

To sue them, we would also need to establish personal jurisdiction over them. Impossible in United States courts. I will spare you the legal analysis, but they haven't sufficiently entered their product into the US stream of commerce to be sued here in civil court.

They are completely safe.
Not sure why I wasted ten minutes of my life to explain that, lol.

I think it's a given that development will continue... YO has never been the final goal. And since they go on improving that I think it's safe to say that the project on a whole is continuing to be developed.

Would be nice to get an official response, ofc. :)

yes the MMO development was successfully funded and we will increase the size of our team 8-)

Well, on a serious note it is truth. Right now we're still waiting for a first funds from Steam ( it is normal that it takes so long, unfortunately :( ). Once we get it - we will start growing rapidly. For some time LiF:YO will be our priority, but you must keep in mind, that 95% of bugs that will be fixed in LiF:YO will be automatically fixed in MMO, since they share a large chunk of same code. So Once we have a LiF:YO in a release quality, that will mean that MMO is in a good quality too.

Of course we will have to do way more in LiF:MMO, since it is MMO afterall and not just single server. But I'm looking positive that we will resume LiF:MMO tests by the Summer 2015.
BUT, please, do not hook up on that estimate, because it is TOO ROUGH, because I can't predict development speeds until we get more ppl and set everything on rails of development.

Also I just want to make an official excuse for my lack of presence on forums, no presence in official IRC and reply lags on forums IMs and other communication channels. Really sorry for that
We're the same outnumbered team that is forced to support a huge amount of users that had poured on us recently and keep on the development pace etc. So that is all I can do with my presence ATM :(

Hope things will get better lately once we grow and I'll be able to increase my presence :Yahoo!:

what exactly is fantastic? Roughly summer 2015 just to have a proper YO and resume with the MMO? Ok, if that makes funders happy I guess this slow pace of "development" can continue.

I have followed sandbox MMOs for more than half of my life now.

This is the best development team I have ever encountered.

They are working at a robust pace and we are seeing results.

I think you have unrealistic expectations, and are unlucky to be blinded to how fortunate we are that the game is in such capable hands.
