Herbalism Question

Post by Warden6102 » 27 Sep 2014, 07:56

So I'm trying to level Herbalism to get our village some Flux but I have a couple of questions...

Firstly when I 'search for herbs' on a tile I can do it multiple times, each time the last set of herbs disappear and new ones appear... whats the point of this? Am I finding different quality herbs or should I just stick with whatever appears first?

Secondly, when I come to actually combine things in the mortar and pestle, sometimes ingredients combine and I create a preparation, other times the progress bar for the action just stops near completion with no message whatsoever.
Do I assume that means that whatever combination I tried doesn't have any properties in common? It would make much more sense to have a message to that effect in system or something, at the moment it could just as easily be a bug :-S

I'm still a bit new to Herbalism myself but so far what I've figured is that everytime you search there's a chance you'll find rare herbs. If you do find them then cancel the search by hitting the "esc" and gather any rares. So you just keep searching until you find rares, uncommon, ect and gather.

Not sure on your second question but that's also what I've assumed. It would be nice to get a notice in chat like "No match found"

Also when searching for herbs you'll start to see the Red plants pop up. I always stop there and gather, sometimes I'll have 3 up at a time.

Im wondering if the flux is only found on the red and orange plants that appear, and not on the white ones, just different chances since its all random anyway. But for your second question if there are 2 herbs with a matching trait they will combine, they they do not have a common trait they will not and nothing will happen when the bar reaches the end

What i figured about herbalism:

1: Rarity of herb is quality. Rare herbs have higher quality, pristine herbs have higher quality than rare herbs. What is quality for i dont know yet (i dont have herbalist shop) but i think you can create higher quality (stronger) potions.

2: Every herb have 3 effects. For creating preparation ( or Naptha, Flux or Flavour) you need to mix two herbs with that effect. So if you want Flux you need two herbs with Flux effect.

3: You must randomly mix herbs to discover its effects. But i dont know if its bug but my discovered effects disapeared in time. Yesterday i have finally all 66 herbs fully discovered and today i have half effects unknown :( (I hope its bug and they fix that)

4: Worst thing is, when i try to help my friend by telling him wich herbs have Flux effect we discovered that every player have different effects on herbs. I cant make Flux from herbs that works for him.

What is above is fairly accurate. Note that although all the ingredients reset and you cannot see their effects, they do not change.

If you keep a spreadsheet of herb effects these remain constant. The ingredient effects resetting seems to occur when server crashes. Not sure why.

1) The red flowers are the rares ( and they have high quality)
The white and red are for normal
And the whites one are the lower in the quality

But my question are

The preparation are used to make potions? And how?

And potions can be drink?

you need bottles for potions and alchemy skill. But IIRC you need to raise healing first.
yes there is a bug that removes effects but as it has been said it is only visual. If you already know what herbs will result in flux you are good to go.

I too keep getting the "unknown effect" issue where the herbal effect is not displayed and crafting a preperation does not yeild any results.

However I did find a handy herbalism spreadsheet online
for you to record your own recipes
saves a lot of writing and headaches trying to remember the names

1. Herbs are not "rare" - just quality varies. Red plants can give up to 100 Quality which means your flux has higher quality which means your steel has higher quality and so on :)

2. Good spots for high quality herbs are swamps with forest close to it.

3. steel sickle increases your collecting speed significantly.

4. There are 66 herbs. Every herb has 3 Properties. The first 2 properties are "positive" like toughness, intelligence, stamina atc. The 3rd property is "negative" like poison etc.
-> Only the first 2 Properties can have "flux" "naphta",... property
-> There are 11 Herbs which can have "flux" "naphta",... property

5. Properties are random for every character. Which herbs you can use for flux you can only find out by randomly mixing them up and then make a good order how manage your herbs.
A good propose is managing them in a matrix: This means you can save a lot of writing work:
One example is shown here:

http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3780 ... 4t_jpg.htm

You can see the properties of every herb by looking the horizontal and vertical lines.
If you want to prepare potions with 3 properties you can see which herb you will need by looking where the prpoerties cross each other in this matrix.

Good luck at searching for herbs :)
