Server Crash Frequency Increases with Server Life

Post by HolyCrusader » 23 Dec 2014, 12:04

Hey all,

Server Crash Frequency Increases with Server Life
Is this a trend that everyone's server follows? The longer that the server's been up, the more often crashes seem to occur.

Currently our month old server crashes on average once per day. What are other people experiencing?

Any ways we can reduce the # of crashes??

Appreciate any advice/insight/tips

Hopefully this is something the devs are working on too (server side optimizations PLEASE)

Does no one else have this issue? Really? This has to be top priority. I don't see why servers should have to restart after 1 month consistently because mining ruin's performance... (or whatever the cause is) People invest a lot of time and don't want to continuously restart.

This should be priority #1. Along with fixing the tunneling/mining system which people use to grief others.

If these aren't fixed I can't see LIF:YO and LIF MMO being successful at all

edit: the fact that any asshat can just go in any server and mine it to hell REALLY means there needs to be improvements

Agreed that the tunneling does need a fix asap. Having to always do server wipes really is one of the leading problems that is driving people away from the game. I recently joined a guild that has implemented a pseudo fix for it, we're using "save points" so that when we do have to wipe due to crashes or updates, we use GM powers to rebuild the infrastructure we already had instead of starting from scratch.

Tunneling to get into other's bases though, that's a different story (as long as they aren't digging massive tunnels for the explicit reason to lag the server out). Sapping is a legitimate warfare siege tactic and should stay in the game. I think it would be very interesting if things like sapper's bombs were added.
