Losing appeal

Post by Ziong18 » 29 Dec 2014, 09:17

Anytime somebody posts about this the topic gets deleted... But Four and a half pages of spam posts, almost every single day, and no word on wether anything is going to be done about it because every post like this gets taken down. The forum is losing its appeal the longer this keeps happening.

I agree 100%, funny how those who wants to get this problem fixed get their posts deleted, as that is probably takes as critisism of the moderators.

As if someone commenting on how a moderator fails to delete spam is worse that the spam itself.

I barely use this page anymore, as the same but spam free information can be found elsewhere.

But as you said, this page is losing its appeal.

Almost 2015, and a page like this is killed by spam.
I really dont know what to think about this.

If or when this thread is deleted, that is it for me regarding this page.

We have already installed some anti-bot scripts, but apparently it's not enough. Maybe, just maybe we will increase security further by allowing only customers to post on our forums. But that's under the question right now. We will research more possibilities on how to successfuly stop bots from turning our forums into trashcan.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we promise that we will do our best to get rid of this issue once and for all.

<shrug> 'Bots Happen

I cannot believe that some players would get that upset about this, just scroll past it. It's a hell of a lot more work having to remove the spam posts than it is to ignore them.

Perhaps non-customers should only have read access?

So you are gonna tell me how to feel about spam, are you?

If you read the two first posts, you can see that we are commenting on how posts commenting gets deleted as well.

I cannot believe that you want to exclude honest people how haven't had the chance to buy the game yet.

I mean, they might not get the chance to read your wise words.

You don't have to comment absolutely everything, you know.

As I said we will explore all possibilities on the way to remove that spambot-cancer.

Create a forum section that people who have not purchased the game can ask question on.

Have the rest of the forums locked to owners of the game.

I suggested that in the past to the Arrakis09 in November via private message.

Here was the private message I sent.
Please change the requirements to post on the forums to include the purchase of the game. At least make some money off of the spambots if possible.

Then have your lawyers contact the companies if it violates the terms of use and forum rules. Might be able to gain the funding from any settlements received from them.
It does not matter who is the strongest fighter, just the last one standing.

My suggestion: moderate new users posts. After they have 3 accepted posts they can post freely.

Read-Only access would allow you to review my wise words every time I share them. You would not be able to add any comments however. No criticism of those who have invested in this fantastic game, no opinion of how the game should be designed, and no review on the quality of work these forum moderators provide.

To further clarify, follow these step by step instructions:
1) Buy the game
2) Experience what the game has to offer
3) Provide your feedback on these forums.
4) Post any bugs or enhancements on Mantis.

If you used something like Xenforo or vBulletin(version 4 only!), then you would have the tools to combat this fairly easily. I've run both in the past and still run one of them today. I have no idea what integrations you've done with this software and anything on the back end, but I would think it shouldn't be too much trouble to switch.

Of course, I have no idea what work you've done so I understand I'm completely speaking from the outside. =) But I can speak from experience with those two forum products and SPAM is fairly easily dealt with.

With all this continuous spam, I noticed one thing - the spam-posts that get the most views have "marriage problem solutions" in their title.
Makes me wonder....did their marriage problems start before or after purchasing Life is Fuedal?
:D

For the amount of work the Devs are doing on the game AND keeping a well put together forum and wiki, I congratulate them. :Bravo:

:bad: Spam is and will always be a pain in the @ss  .
On the LIF forum the spam gets removed quickly (once notified) and they are looking into a longer term solution. What more do you want? Free steak knives?

They never use same IP or email. I have set flood interval to 120seconds. That should slow them down.

At least they are unable to produce more than dozen threads anymore, so there's some progress.

I'm sure someone has already suggested this, but why not require some sort of CAPTCHA when posting. That should stop the BOTs from spamming posts

If it was tied to only non-owners then I'd be in favor of it. Otherwise, I paid for the game, and I would rather see non-owners denied the ability to post rather than having us owners enter a captcha every time we post.

CAPTCHAs are pretty common in preventing bot posts. I even think google is working on a new CAPTCHA method that determines if the user is human based on their mouse movements, but I don't think its fully developed yet. Perhaps if you limit it to non members it would do the trick..
