Cannot connect to preferred server

Post by Deespell888 » 07 Feb 2015, 13:21

I have been playing on the same dedicated server for over a month. Yesterday all of a sudden the server disappeared from my favorites list, and wasnt listed on the server page anymore. If I try to direct connect to the server IP I get a time out error, doesnt matter if i try to connect through the direct connect option or through the console. If I try to join a friend on the server, I get the message server is not responding. I have tried rebooting my computer, verifying the files for the LiF installation, disabling my firewall, deleting and clean reinstalling the installation of LiF, deleting and reinstalling Steam, updating my AV software, checking my exceptions on my firewall, checking port forwarding, and so on.

Nothing seems to work. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? I am able to connect and play on several other servers, but my friends are all on the one I cant join - which defeats the purpose of playing for me.

If your friends are still able to log in and play there, it suggests there is something wrong on your end.

The surest way to fix player-side issues is to reinstall, but don't jump immediately to a full removal and reinstallation.

1. Go to your steam\steamapps\common\life is feudal folder and delete the folder "daemon" and everything in it.
2. Open steam to the games library and Right Click on Life Is Feudal - click on Properties.
3. Click the Local Files tab and then "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

It accomplishes the same as a full reinstall (for about 99% of things).

I thank you for your reply and suggestions, but unfortunately I have already tried all of these steps, as well as a complete wipe and clean install of both LiF and Steam.

This is really frustrating.

1 person in my guild is having the same problem, everyone else can log in fine, he get's stuck at connecting to server. He was able to connect fine last week, noticed the problem when he got back from vacation a couple days ago.

Our server is from Bluefang, and it's working fine for the rest of the guild, so i don't think it's an issue with Servers from a specific company.

Had him try Eslake's suggestion, didn't work. If anyone else has any ideas please let us know so we can try them.

I run a dedicated server and I may have a little to add here. I occasionally run into a problem where a user or multiple users will not be able to log back in getting a "server connection timed out" error. I forest-gumped my way into finding a couple of useable workarounds, but I still cannot find the root cause of the problem.

(bear in mind these work-arounds must be implemented on the server side, even though the problem appears on the client side somehow)

WorkdAround 1

Restart server

Let it get to "steam connected" phrase that shows in green

After the green connection post, it will list an update to several items. Note these item IDs or view the log later.

Stop server.

Open HeidiSQL and manually delete each of those items.

Restart server.

** This solution has worked in almost every case, with only two exceptions.

WorkAround 2 - Rollback server

I export the database as SQL every day for a backup. In two instances I have had to roll back the server to the previous day. This has resolved every instance of the problem, but results in potential content loss. This may upset players. :(

Stop Server

Open HeidiSQL and select your lif_1 database

open the query tab

Select "Open SQL" and load your most recent backup

Run Query

Restart Server

I would be VERY interested if anyone has found the root cause for this phenomenon, and/or a less severe workaround. An all out patch would be a godsend.
