can friends build beside each other or even build together?
In other words, could I bring a group of friends in to this game and could we build a persistent community together?

LOL Funny someone asks that..
Except on servers where skillcap is high, teamwork is a NECESSARY, there is NO WAY to progress through the game without it, and even on high skill cap servers where you can do everything, you will need help for big construction project, and to defend what you have built. With the guild system, you can build a village, or even a castle with as many friends as you like. In fact, the more the better.
