The MMO

Post by Hoshiqua » 25 Apr 2015, 23:37

Any news about it ?

I'm asking because there's a rumor spreading that it's going to restart in september, after YO official release.. That would be very frickin great, but I'd like to be sure. If the date is different, it would influence a lot of what my guild is going to do !

I hope you can provide a somewhat accurate answer, now that september isn't as far. But I won't get my hopes too high :D

Thank you in advance !

Yea.. she gives the estimation for the MMO RELEASE date, but not the date for the restart of the testings..
I guess those testings will start in september, I doubt the devs will straight stop working between september and december.

The MMO will be launched in late 2015 or early 2016. After the release of YO will begin work on an MMO project. As was stated by the developers of YO 98% MMO so they will have to finish these 2%, to establish a stable operation of servers and fix bugs.

may i ask a serious question... ( please dont misunderstand it)

do you really believe in the mmo?
i really can not imagine that the poor torque engine can handle a world with 10000 players....
at the moment the performance is quite poor.. ok perhaps the patch will improve this a bit.. but i really dont expect very much of this engine...

please.. dont misunderstand my question.. but our community discuss this and we really dont believe in this project... the performance is just to poor... and the torque engine on of the worst in the market...

but we hope for it, because we really like the game and have a very good visited german server

i feedback would be nice

As for the engine itself, I'll quote Bobik here:

Bobik wrote:Nothing much left from original Torque and we have a full access to source code and a knowledge of how it is working. Torque3D initially had no teraforming, but it is in our game. Torque3D initially had no free building and melee combat phisics, but it is in our game. Torque3D was initially DirectX 9 only, but now we are implementing DirectX 11 support to it. Torque3D might not have a good performance in some parts, but we are ging to fix it also.
So please, quit doomsaying and have some faith in us already ;) :)

Also, whenever you mention that "10k players goal", never forget that the MMO will not be ONE server, it will be a map out of 50 ! cluster servers being the world. So the 10000 players split on these 50 servers. Is a difference. :) Not saying I believe that fact alone will make 10000 players work, just saying it's not like they expect 10000 players per server! :)

200 players per server is still huge. Mount&Blade did it but with serious lag issues. Last time I checked LiF was having lag issues with far fewer than that.

perhaps the devs can give us information how the network is handled?

does the game load the complete data of the entire map / players... or only the part where the player is at the moment...

i think that everything is loaded at the moment and this is what makes the game so slow / laggy.. but perhaps they work on a change...

just a free personal thought: i never considerated graphic important, and i have pc that can handle new badass games more than decently. plus: keep in mind i have almost 600 hours..
which means i love the project anyway. recently i decided to give a try to skyrim (high texture pack..), 2011 game. well i played it for a week and the trebuchet patch came out, i was called to come back and fight for the village we built. i launched the game and you know what? dudes this game looks crap when it comes to graphic. i had troubles to keep playing it and not quitting after 10 min of gameplay. problem is everything looks ugly. and im not speaking about the art design, which is amazing. but the quality of the texture renderization itself.

i know its no sense to say it at this point but, i need: when you guys decided which engine to pick up maybe you made the good choice among the ones where avaibles at that time (not completely sure about it btw) but now everything looks outdated to be honest when you look the game.

really sad that you cannot switch to another engine (i know its late..dont tell me). now for example UE4 is out with really interesting prices for everyone who want to use it for commercial purpose: you need to pay a fee of 5% only when you have already reached a certain amount of copy sold.
sadly you devs came out with project in 2011 and ue4 came out recently and not before.

i will never say again:"graphic it doesnt matter" cuz is a fkin lie.

i like the graphics... :)
and i like the game(play)... !

i hate the performance - but this will be improved.

ok, tha update progress could be faster (compared to REIGN OF KINGS - they deliver quite fast great features - but LIF is the better game!) and the devs could give all of us better AND MORE information. many questions regarding mods are just unanswered...
i just read an article of the SPACE ENGINEER and MEDIVIEAL ENGINEER devs and they post so many information we never get here...

i think , this game here is developed by just a few guys.. i also cant understand the decision to use t3d... (but they told us, that they changed so much of it ...) but i really like the game and we have a great community of german players.. lets stay tuned and see the progress of the development.. i will stay at LIF - YO.. (if they fix the performance...)

Comparing Skyrim, a company that has 50+ developers, programmers, a single player game, etc to a team of 6 or less people with Life is Feudal..of course they are going to have better graphics.

I think you underestimate the size of both Bethesda and BitBox (LiF's dev team.)

I trust and have faith in this dev team, as they have shown determination when things were very bad (funding drying up, failed kickstarter, small following on the forum.)

The work they have done with their engine is truly amazing. They seemed to be skilled software engineers, and have a good vision for the game technically.

Where I am most concerned is not IF they will make Life is Feudal, but HOW life is fuedal will look when its done.

As good as they are with the software, will they have and endgame that will keep people playing for years?

I hope so.

We will have to wait and see.
LiF is, after all the failures that promised similar gameplay (like Xsyon), the most promising one.

Just from looking back the past 6 Months I can fairly say there has been a steady progress into something. If this "something" will eventually evolve into something greater, we'll have to see.

If the MMO ever releases, based on what we have in YO already and the additions they will include, I'm pretty sure the first few weeks will be a mess just like with every Indie-MMO that has been released in the past, but it has so much potential to be great, that it will be hard to fuck it up completely. They'd have to completely throw away main aspects of the current game to turn me off.

I imagine they will be seamless as in other mmos.

They are seamless yes. But don't worry, when a server node gets crashed or shut down, and you try to go there, it says "god does not want you to go there" and it teleports you back to the boundary.

Haha, that's hilarious and cool. I imagine they will improve server stability at release. Its certainly way better than it was at the start of EA.

Afaik the memory leaks are almost all fixed, if not all.

Edit: I do wonder how newbie island will be at release though. I imagine it will get hammered and they will need tons of shards to deal with tens of thousands of players - With likely several hundred simultaneously.

You are correct.
The lead dev said as much.
