Roleplay and RP Friendly Guilds

Post by Krevente » 06 Jan 2014, 22:09

Let's get a consolidated list of RP guilds for folks to find a potential home who are interested in Roleplay. As we spin up http://www.lifeisroleplay.com I'd like to get a sense of the guilds we should be pointing players towards in terms of their view/philosophy on RP.

For example, SSR is all about RP-PvP based on the idea that you can't really have RP without true consequences that PvP brings. We RP through our structure and events, not necessarily sitting around a tavern and talking about things we could be doing; instead we go out and do them.

From your description The Vatican wil be pretty similar, in that we see playing the game as RP, and people are encouraged to behave accordingly, though heavy interest in RP is not exactly a requirement for joining. If you don't want to RP but like the theme/goal of the guild and are fine with doing your duties and recieving your dues without bothering anyone, great, you're a fine member.

To be more precise, we encourage practical RP, as in, you RP up to the point that it gets in the way of being effective at what you're doing. This means no idle chat during combat, no "hail traveller" to the guy who's blatantly charging at you with his weapon drawn, and no "I'm going to take a break from mining now because even though the game tells me I'm not tired yet, I'm going to pretend I'm tired, only to get killed while lying flat on my back in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason.".

This DOES mean events, and speeches, talking in town/taverns, having fun while out in the field (whether it's pvp or gathering), and simply respecting people's wish to stay in character, even if you don't feel like roleplaying yourself.

Quite frankly, the very basis of the guild is RP (being the main religious faction that's trying to prevent unnecesary bloodshed and unite the continent peacefully) Though, as mentioned, this up to the point that RP-methods do not get in the way of RP-goals (If we're attacked at the negotiation table, we're not going to complain about it or scream and hide, we're going to kill the attackers and enforce the treaty, life is feudal and all that)

In summary I'd say we're a very RP-friendly guild, while also, quite frankly, being very non-RP friendly. We're just not very anti-RP friendly, it's a roleplaying game and if people want to roleplay you don't get to troll them from a misguided sense of "less nerd than you" superiority.

Cause that would just be a self-defeating argument.

Yours truly -The Pope

We're actually working on building up a concept called "Immersive Play" Rather than Roleplay because it seems as if the tavern/forum RPers have taken over the image of the RP community.

A lot of our guys are current and former military and don't want to do the sim stuff from the Mil-Sim community either because a lot of the groups that are out there focus so much on the titles and the customs courtesies or duplicating crap right out of the field manuals instead of understanding the reality of their application.

Immersive Play is all about presenting a whole environment that is put on by a guild or group of guilds to encourage people to get involved rather than some sort of enforcement by rules. It is flexible enough to incorporate those who do not wish to get involved directly and stay in character or those who want to jump in and out. It is more of a positive enforcement through events, structure and players in their roles rather than a set of rules.

Spread the word, IP (Immersive Play) is now a thing! :D

In summary...instead of pretending to go out and do epic stuff, we actually go out and do epic stuff.

Azerath has a way with words. I concur with that TL;DR.

I like that. No predetermined history of glory. If you haven't done it IG, it never happened.

Is that what you're saying?

Mostly. The way we do RP is event focused. It's also less rules-centric. IC or OOC is just kind of meh because we do something and then write a narrative later to record what happened.

Most people RP like it's being recorded in first person as it's happening. I don't like that. I like the cloudy element of history when things get stretched and some of it gets inflated. I like to have people record things from their own perspective and then merge those points of view into a shared storyline. It's how we've written the entire history of the Silver Sun Republic.

RPers get the negative spin of being whiny and weak. We like to think as RP-PvPers we break the mold!

You aren't going to find any heroes in the Republic who single-handedly slew a dragon, or toppled an Empire.

...but maybe one of our ancestors did...or at least we claim they did...

The village idiot is generally playing a few cards short of a full deck, so why not egg him on that his ancestors were dragon slayers?
