Buying a new private server

Post by Wheredafksmypeel » 12 Jun 2015, 14:53

Hey everyone, I was wondering which server provider people use that have less than 100ms like Valhalla's Garden, Gelderland M2 - New Player Friendly, Kingdoms of Arkayah, and Oakheart. KoA claims to run on NFO servers, so i looked it up and price seems reasonable, but one thing that I cannot figure out after hours of googling,

what OS are you supposed to run this on for best performance and having a healthy/stable connection?

You can run it on Windows Server 2012

Your ping to the server (100ms ect.), is not determined by the host. That has to do with the path your data stream takes getting to the server. The closer to the servers you are, the better your ping will be.

Performance is going to depend largely on the CPU of the server and your PC. Currently the Windows platform is best until they get around to making a Linux dedi.

Ya, Im looking to buy a Dallas server, but which host provider is the best and most stable? I want to make sure im getting the most bang for my buck. Ive heard NFO servers dosnt do dedicated servers but you can buy a virtual one and set it up. But after tons of time looking it up theres no way to see how to set up things like JH and mods, im not very sql savvy so its pretty hard for me. just tired of the fun looking servers being low skill cap, and all the fast xp high skill cap has little to no pvp raiding ect.

I run Kingdoms of Arkhaya LiF Server on Windows Server 2012 R2 on NFO. I also on the same machine am now running an instance of Ark Survival Evolved's server for our playerbase. Both are running quite well along with each other the only thing I really had to expand on was needing RAM, currently I am on the 10 GB option for both. But for LiF the 4 core 4 GB option usually is enough. Though you may run into some issues with RDP when RAM usage becomes high as ours did because of a database size of almost 200 MB.

Also we went with a lower skill cap and multiplier in order to be a little truer to the eventual MMO. Modding is best done on a server you have full control over. It makes it easier to change things on the fly and with very little downtime. It is how I figured out how to modify base damage and implement what I think is a better armor system.

In all honesty I wanted to join your server, I loved the idea of everything you have on it. Only reason i didnt is because of skill cap and multiplier due to it being alpha with beta within the next few months I like to be able to actually TEST the game and what everything does you know what I mean, thus the reason I even wanted to make my own server. The server I am currently on is a 40 player, with only a handful of people that even pvp which is lame, the GM is kind of an asshat, i offered to help pay for the server for admin rights and to increase player cap as well as add some nice mods like yours has. And basically he said he didnt believe in the game and dosnt care for it so he dosnt want to touch the server at all. =/ I dont know sql or how to actually make a server on NFO which is who i wanted to buy a vps from. There are little to no tutorials for it either so im kinda stuck in a hole right now...
