What you said in the patch notes does not work at all, when doing so the player in question gets "Error in datablock" when trying to access the old player.

works for me, had to do it player by player, i downloaded the bin file and uploaded it to the old character

That's maybe cause your looking inside the db from a browser, normally you would alter things inside the db using HeidiSQL

You need full read/write DB access and a management program such as HeidiSQL or PHPMYADMIN if using MYSQL to make this work.

There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING you can copy from the file system to change appearances.

All appearances are stored as some type of hash or encoded string of numbers attached to each character in the DB. This can only be altered IN THE DB.

i use PHPMYADMIN and it doesnt appear as a string

I managed to make the changes for my players, but i had to download a file (BLOB-10 B) from each persons new character one by one, and upload it to their old character. Luckily i did not have to shutdown the server to do it. So I don't know what happend with it. its a fresh server too.
