Ok thanks for reply. I was under the impression that A public server provided by blue fang, was provided for public access and therefore had no admin. So just to clarify, even if it says public server, it is in fact a private one?

If it's listed as public it likely is one just hosted by bluefang for the purposes of advertising.

Well, I and another run one, though he pretty much does everything so I'm more like backup, lol. We are very active and don't use the admin except to delete infini-moose before patch and delete buildings when players ask. So it depends on the server. Some are amusement parks, others just give you everything and are based are social interaction and then there's ours, that try to run the game as close to as it's designed to be, hence the 1x skill. If you wana check any of the blue fang servers out, drop by one of them. If you drop on ours (Chicago 11) you ask the players there of their experiences with the Admins are like.

No, your OP was misunderstood.
Yes, obviously there are admins of the Bluefangs public servers, but probably there are no GMs.

Thanks for all the responses. The reason I asked is because I've experienced some very bad GM(admin?) griefing on a blue fang public server, and I was confused, because the reason I joined a blue fang public server was to avoid that. Sadly I've just decided to stop playing, as it seems unless I pay 35 a month for my own server, someone can just walk along and undo 48 man hours of my work.

On a seperate note, I don't think the name public server should be used when in fact its owned by an individual who has 100% of the power.

That's horrible. Not asking for names or anything and not sure if I can ask that but.. damn it I'd like to know what server that is. Well, if you change your mind I can promise you that kinda crap does not happen on our server. As long as people don't cheat/hack or grief(pvp is not griefing), everyone otherwise have full run of the place.

As much as I would like to warn people away from it, alas, I must uphold the integrity of the forum rules. Theres really nothing to be done anyway. If they own the server, they may conduct themselves as they wish. I just thought that if I played on a public server provided by the games main host(bluefang), I wouldn't have to deal with cheating.

Just to clarify, im ok with pvp and getting robbed, its part of the game, but using GM powers to delete buildings and insta kill my friends who were trying to defend our camp.... thats straight up cheating IMO.

Thanks for the offer. Right now im still kind of fuming from watching many hours and hours of my work get deleted by some kid. If I cool off in the next couple of days I may take you up on your offer. Im a little hesitate to join a bluefang server, but they cant all be the same right? Lol

Just for clarification, are you a GM of that server? That would give me a final verdict on if bluefang public servers have GM's or not.

I am, and the answer is some do some do not. Given the choice though you really need a GM to maintain a server. Otherwise it gets unplayable relatively quickly due to all the garbage and lack of decay.

Understood. I understand the need of GM's. I do wish I could make people aware of the abuse so they don't waste time like I did. I still think that the term "Public server" shouldn't be used if its privately owned. Its very misleading and makes it seem like the server is supported directly by the company, not an individual.

I have found that the playground (high skill rate servers) and amusement parks (the come here Ill build you a castle with my gm powers servers) are very prone to GM abuse. But you have to take the good with the bad, the game itself is good in my opinion. Just need to find a place for yourself.

I completely hear you on the bad admin thing, I started renting a server myself because of it. If you're willing to try a vanilla setting server, then you should come try out ours. It has a high uptime, hourly backups so if someone does grief you, we can rollback, and active admins that don't abuse their powers whatsoever.
