Question and Suggestion regarding economy.

Post by Lukasx98 » 04 Oct 2014, 21:41

Well I am wondering if there will be a currency system out side of the premium credits. So you can do player to player trading with coins and not just barter. And also a large economy system with jobs like owning a store or an inn, renting out bedrooms for travelers.

I think this would add lots of life within the cities that will pop up around the land. So you don't have to run out in to the wild hunting for resources (so soldiers protecting the cities lives in them). Of course some one will have to do that so the store have something to sell but they will buy that from the hunters, scavengers and farmers.

This could also mean that trading guilds can have large scale operations going on with guild owned mines, farms and caravans.

This is also where the skill system will take effect. If you decide that you want to be a hunter your skills in that category will go upp and it will be easier for you to make money in that way. that would also work with someone owning a blacksmith in a town or city. If he gett better at making tools he will make more profit and can expand his business with maybe an apprentice or buying in more rare ores from the mines outside the city.

This will come full circle with hunters, farmers, miner going in to the city to sell their wares and buy needed tools to make their jobs easier and more profitable. Like a market held at certain time every week. depending on how long it takes to gather materials and make the wares.

This should help make a more living game with more realistic encounter with other people.

I think the devs should make it take longer to gain levels of your skills and make it take longer to mine, farm, build. So you have to specialise your self. that was what happened in reality when the population grew.

I am not saying it should be impossible to sustain your self out in the wild but as in real life the more logical way is to be part in a community.

Sorry for the long post. :)

Best of luck in game.
Lukas

Copper, silver, and gold coins are in the game. I think a smith just needs to make them.

Haven't seen any options to make these, so at least doubt it has been implemented.

Would also be pointless at the moment if everyone can just make their own currency.

They are in the game, but in LiF:YO that aren't craftable yet. However, they can be spawned in by a GM.

Good post. Good English. And, of course, thanks for the "English isn't my first language" type comment. I can't speak for anyone else, but I always appreciate that.

As for the skills... My first time around on my private server I had everything set to default, and it took us about 100-150 hours before we were really approaching the skill cap limits. Keep in mind that you can switch skills as well.

Maybe they'll also implement a thing where a certain amount of your skillpoints have to be combat. I dunno.

At the moment it seems like it'll be fine. But I'm far from certain (I've been playing for 2 weeks, and only on my private server).

Making the coins craftable would be a bad idea, have people spawn in with some coin and make the trading post able to buy wares from people

Why would players mining currency be bad if theres a limited supply of copper silver and gold?

Because the potential would exist that only one class could horde all the currency, and crash or control the economy according to it's own selfish ends, whims and desires.

(Kind of like the fiat privately owned consortium cartel Rothschild owned and controlled "federal" reserve today :bad: )

“Let me issue and control a nation’s money and I care not who writes the laws.” Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812), founder of the House of Rothschild.

I highly doubt any of the kingdoms would be able to successfully start their own bank and start making their own form of paper currency to cause inflation. Its not like the gold will all be in one spot.

It could very well end up all in one spot. But the world IS large, so it wouldn't be an issue for a very long time.

You have it backwards. A naturally limited gold supply which people could mine themselves would be the exact opposite of a fiat currency. The value of it would adjust itself naturally according to the supply in circulation. If it was unlimited or fed into the system by the GMs then it would keep getting debased by macro inflation. By your logic you'd be against bitcoin and a gold standard, so why do you bring up the Rothschilds as an argument for implementing the exact same thing they're doing?
