I can play on my on server for however long I wish. However playing on any server i cant stay connected for more than a few minutes before the connection to the host server times out.... hints tips or tricks?

as thousands of other players are discussing on these and other boards, there are stability issues server side atm, due to memory leaks. Devs are at work to remove them.

YEs. Create a world and set to private. You will be by yourself.

Should I be able to do this without an active internet connection?

Unsure. The database is ran locally. Dont know if game requires steam online. Try switching to offline more and give it a shot.

I just hadn't been able to host a server at all up to this point, I might try and give it a go on my other rig. I can't connect the game through any of the networks I have access to at the moment so running the game offline would at least allow me to continue testing to an extent.
