Archery butts and training dummies

Post by Orsus » 21 Nov 2014, 09:30

Are the archery butts and training dummies working in game yet?

I have 1 of each in my camp, I have not been able to raise any skills when hitting them, I have used actual weapons and training weapons with the same results.
It does not matter who is the strongest fighter, just the last one standing.

Last I checked my archery target (10 days ago) no. As in you don't get xp for hitting it.

Will check for ya's again today.

You should never get xp for hitting a dummy.

Training on a dummy should give you skill gains up to a certain cap - which should be pretty low...

Agreed, it's there for training purposes.

Same could be said for the "practice swords/hammers" then, but they continue to give you xp all the way to 100 if you want.

Just checked, no skill gains from either the target or the dummy currently.

I think it should give skill just not enough skill to unlock the next tier of skills (30) maybe should have a gain cap like the training dummies in UO had. If they plan to implement skill gain from them in the future

i agree with Degrath you should be able to train on the training dummies, but only to level 30 and with training weapons, this would allow you to gain basic skill to wield basic sword/two handed sword as in real life, i also think you should be able to spar with wooden weapons with friends to raise your skill maybe with less/no damage to friend and a lesser increase

Alternatively, you could get 1/10 of the xp from hitting a training target that you would receive from hitting a live target. Maybe that's more easy to implement.

agreed, a low gain xp on trining dumies would be good, and would work onli to opeen up the next weapon skill, sometimes the objective is to play bows for exemple so it would be good if you have a way to train ranged weapons slingers and crossbows easyly, but not enougth to become a master.

I say that you should be able to traing to 100% with training dummy/target if you want to. Maby cut the skill gain in half but still let people use training targets to train themselfs...

Actually beating up training dummy or shooting arrows at a target is so much more realistic than whats generally going on when people are training fighting skills... You know hitting someone else with wooden sword repeatedly at same excact spot while the other person is standing still and holding parry or when training ranged weapons having the other person parry with a bow/xbow... How is it more realistic to increase your bow shooting skill by having someone hit your bow with wooden mallet repeatedly compared to actually shooting at an archery target?

We have to make the distinction between character skill and actual player skill. I believe a training dummy for melee will be useless in increasing your player skill.. maybe get a better grasp of your weapon range, but that's it. But it should definitly increase by a little bit your skill for two handed fighting. Maybe gain more skill when you execute a combo on a dummy, so it gives some way to learn them by heart..

But I definitly think that you should get a lot more skillpoints by sparring with another player, maybe depending on his own weapon skill.. I think player interactions should be prioritized over anything else..

Player interaction of stading still while someone beats your weapon with wooden mallet...
Its boring from player point of view and its extremely stupid in rp point of view.

Sure actualy sparring with other players would be good, but the rising up of the skill would be much better with beating up a training dummy as then(like said) you could do different attack, learn to do combos, test weapon reach/dmg etc.

In the latest patch cancelled the increase of skill bows with block and in return gave nothing. Hence, the increase in skill is extremely difficult now without the normal work аrchery target and training dummies. Thank you.
