Hi,

I am now no longer able to get the game to launch after the Release Update downloaded and installed. It played fine before this.

Been all over the forums, read loads of posts, and can't find an answer. I have, however, tried a few suggestions (the more standard stuff), so here is where I sit at the moment:

My PC runs Direct X 11 - Checked
My Video card driver is updated - Checked
Restarted PC after update to clear the board -
Searched everywhere for someone with my same problem - but found no-one.
Only find some very, very technical stuff sitting in a dark and murky corner about forcing video cards to pick up signals or something, and I ask myself why I paid £24.99 for a game where I have to go delving into the uncharted (and very scary) guts of my laptop to make it work?

I still only get a black screen on launch and Sean Bean's intro plays...but I see no images/video. I hear the game settle on the menu screen, but still cannot see anything. At this point, I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE for Task Manager and End task to force a close. I am guessing your Mantis Bug Reporter won't pick this up so I have hauled ass all the way over here to come and tell you this in person.

What is to be done about this, please?

Day Two: Just an update on what else I have tried/tests I have done re my black screen problem:

1. Deleted LiF off my Steam library and did a full reinstall. No joy.
2. Rolled back to the dx9-legacy version, just to check whether or not it was my graphics card playing up. The old pre-release version worked fine, I was able to enter an old test world I created last week. So, conclusion is that it is definitely something in the new release version that is not working for me.
3. Re-updated LiF to release version, tested once more. Still no joy.
4. Downloaded today's Hotfix, held thumbs but...still only the black screen and Sean Bean's voice-over.

I've posted here and on Steam about my problem, and no-one has been able to help.

Please, Dev: take a look at this post and offer some advice to a paying customer.

I too am having the same problem. I ran through the same steps and also nothing has worked. I add my voice to his asking for a reply to this post. I will return the game to steam, for I bought it two days ago, if this post is ignored for long. I do not want to waste my money on a game that is clearly broken.

I too am having the same issues, thought I would try the release, uninstalled my old version redownloaded new version and black screen with audio

You are not alone bro. I bought game yesterday and now Im getting pissed off. Tried some fixes from forums but nothing helps.

Game starts, sound on and only black screen.

If someone is using Mumble as voice chat client try to deactivate the Chat Overlay. It will give on some system the black screen.
I suggest to deactivate every kind of Overlay from any program who can interact whit the LIF client.

I can confirm that Nvidia Experience was the cause of my problems.

After turning it off, LiF ran fast and smooth with no problems at all.

I have the same problems.
Game starts with sound,but nothing but black screen.
Tried all the forum "fixes",nothing works.

Seems like most ppl having this issue runs some version of windows 64 bit.

If it's a Steam problem,they should patch it asap.

i run "win 10 home N" 64bit , no issue
friend of mine has almost the exact same build as me bhut has this issue, same gpu , same amount of memory, same ssd,
cpu is also not the case (got gamers on my server that have the exact same cpu as him)

i am assuming its a motherboard chip difrence thats cause the issue, bhut i know nothing about software so yeah...

do all of u know wich chipset your motherboard is running on?
my friend is running on the Z170 chipset

i am having this issue as well i was able to set it back to dx 9 on the steam page and get to the server page but when i try to load in to a server it says error incorect version

I've been playing this game since beta, and after todays patch I can't play anymore, just a black screen None of the fixes seem to work.

We are sorry guys, that you are still experiencing this issue. We are still working on it and it will be of great help, if you'd send mantis reports with your pc specs and other information that might be related to the issue.

Also if you have AMD cards and have AMD Evolved installed and its running it will cause the blackscreen on start up.

Has anybody found a fix for this if there were any servers that worked with the Dx9 version I would play them but no luck yet

I manually reinstalled C++ Redistributable from the game folder.

\steamapps\common\Life is Feudal Your Own\_CommonRedist\vcredist

This fixed my error that had the exact same symptoms as this post.

One of our PC's had the same problem. After several days of frustration, I suggested the response on this thread to remove Raptr. I still don't know/understand the connection but that immediately resolved the problem. Hope that works for you!

I am having this same exact issue. In the console I see this message TheoraTexture - could not create Vorbis stream for 'art/mainmenu/Menu_Day.ogv'. On an MSI Apache Pro laptop. 970m GPU

I am also having this issue, by rights I should be able to run the game, everything is up to standard yet whenever I try to launch it the screen just stays black >.<

Yup, been having this same issue for months now. Thought these geeks would have fixed it by now, but I have not even seen ONE FREAKIN response from these guys, explaining anything at all. This is a joke and I want my money back. Was saving money to buy a steam machine, but with this kind of crap happening I will not purchase and will spread the word to all my friends and fellow gamers within my network.

tried all fixes suggested but with no luck. nvidia geforce 960m. not sure if there is some other overlay being run that i don't know about. Really hope a patch comes soon or a new fix is suggested.

Does anyone know if it is a laptop problem?

Mine is a laptop and I just tried to use it today now the game won't even start at all I sent a crash report but doubt it will ever get fixed I had high hopes for the game but now I see how much of a joke the development team is its easy if it worked before just find what part of the update caused the problem and fix it simple
