Copper coins and Landclaims

Post by Roflknife » 10 Jan 2018, 16:25

So, I just read that the Steam-release will be tomorrow 11.01.2018 apparently.

One thing is blatantly obvious and absolutely surefire to make new players flee from this game:

You spawn them in absolutely bloody nowhere on a random coast and demand that they walk on foot with nothing on them towards the center of the map in order to sell something for a copper coin so they can start building something which doesnt decay.

Youre forcing new players to run the gauntlet for hours.
You'll be lucky if the existing MMO players dont declare release day to be hunting season and start roaming and killing new players, forcing them to do the hourlong trip all over again.

You may dodge the incoming Steam-refunds by using ingame microtransactions for a ticket for the mainland, but youre sure as hell wasting a lot of long-term-potential players here and making sure they never return.

I don't know whether I'm missing something here, but the solution would be obviously to make trading posts accessible for neutrals, so the playereconomy is used instead.
Not to mention that you have to change the tooltip from "1x shaped stone" to "1x copper coin."

If that is what drives them away, then they werent going to stay anyway.

I mean I sound horrible but it is the truth. Those are some pretty minor things. The biggest issue is the shaped stone instead of copper coin.

There are so many other reasons for them to leave.

-bad lag.
-Lack of real OW PVP
-Skill grind
-lack of resources that arent claimed.
-The fact it is now winter...
Don't build what you can't defend- Rule number 1.

I can assure you that this is most definitely not a minor issue.
And being edgy with statements of "culling the weak playerbase," you're just being edgy, because this reasoning doesnt apply here.
Plenty of players would stay.
In a reasonable game-surrounding you simply dont have to literally >walk< across the 400+ km² map.
That's not supposed to be part of the game, unless there are some special circumstances that make you travel as in joining a different guild, exploring, raiding, etc.
Atleast common sense says so.

If you believe that this is a minor issue, then it has been too long since you started.
This is a grave issue.
Especially if youre a new person without any connections in the game and just want to scout the game and check whether it's good, you will be alone and walking for hours on foot because youre unable to build.
That's the first impression most of them will receive.

That's about the worst way to start someone off.

Winter is part of the issue, yes.

Open world PVP, grind, lags etc. are things that can be expected and players are aware of.
Developers wasting your time for hours on end since the start of the game is something completely different.

I just wanted to leave this warning here, because I still have some sympathy for the game left.

Agree with OP...new player should spawn into game in Town, a safe zone, etc. It is a 'new player'...they spawn out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing, clueless...

They wander around, die, say f-this and out the door they go...not a good way to attract new players. Just my opinion.

Think your playing the game wrong mate hahahaha. You just go on your map, click the button that shows tradeposts then TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBOURS. No need whatsover to go to the NPC city for coins unless your incapable of diplomacy. Jheez. That said, claims could be a bit cheaper. I have to grind mushrooms and a few hides once a day to cover my modest sized claim. But as it stands the current system is meant to encourage dynamic trade and bartering. Although granted, if your not on Epeland people may be less willing to play that way.
