When i try to use a shortbow, the arrow just drops down and has a range of like 5m, just like if just would click the mouse for not long enought. But this happens with every single shot, regardless how long you hold. So the short bow is useless, just like my time spent to reach the skill for it

What is your skill, strength+agility and the quality of the bow?

Because my 77ql Short bow I regularly hunt and kill deer from about 50-60tiles. I have to arc my shots in on them but that is about my max range. It doesn't have the range of a composite bow but it is a good cheap bow to use. That is marginally better than the simple bow.

Besides the skill tree location and the fact it isnt a whole lot better than a simple bow, kind of pisses me off. Seeing as I feel it should be WAY lower on the skill tree to use, like 30 archer, instead of 60. Because why would you go with that over the composite bow?

Ok, sounds like range is dependent on quality of bow or strength of user.

Like I am.
78 skill, 46str, 49 agility, and my quality is 77.

I think it has to be strenght. Because every other bow beyond the primitive one requires a lot of strength, and although it is not said that you need any certain amout of strength, 15 might be too low...

As I improved my strength to 30, the short bow has now about the range of the simple bow. But still the small amout of damage it does more in comparison to the simple bow isnt worth the effort imo.

Damage isn't determined by the bow, it is a factor of the speed of the shot and the quality of the arrow.

When I shoot a naked with a 75ql arrow, the speed is 42, and the damage is 24.5 slashing to the chest. When using a 77ql Short bow.

I know because I test all arrows on Chinese CSTG farmers. They make for great practice targets.

My composite bow of 89ql hits at a speed of 53, with the same arrow for about 36.5 damage to naked chest.

My Arbilest hits at a speed of 72, bolt quality is 53, damage to a naked was 115 to the naked head, 75 to the chest.
