Everyone Having FPS problems CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Post by KingOfHell » 21 Oct 2014, 12:20

so i was searching for THIS exact thing for days and i finally found it on bug report thing (someone wrote it). basically i wanted to limit the drawing distance of the ACTUAL island, to do this u need to go to
Steam\SteamApps\common\Life is Feudal Your Own\scripts\client
and open cm_environment.cs
find
visibleDistance = "10000";
and set it to 200-500, depends on how u want it, i'm setting mine to 200 for more fps but i'm limiting my vision, 500 should be more than enough for good vision, also set the ingame vision bars to the same number too. u can do it from
Steam\SteamApps\common\Life is Feudal Your Own\data
prefs.cs
$pref::TS::renderingDistanceBig = "200";
$pref::TS::renderingDistanceHuge = "200";
$pref::TS::renderingDistanceSmall = "200";
also this is known but i'm still gonna write it here, in the same file prefs.cs
change this
$pref::Shadows::disable = "1";
$pref::Video::antiAliasing = "0";
$pref::Water::disableTrueReflections = "1";
$pref::windEffectRadius = "0"; <<(no idea if it does anything i just changed it)

from 1-5 fps while moving camera i went to 30-50. i'm so happy now :D

https://lifeisfeudal.com/mantis/view.php?id=1193
this is where i found the drawing distance fix.

omg it works.

I would normally get 100+ frames looking away from the mountain.

but as soon as i moved my camera to turn towards the mountain I would drop to 16 frames. Something about the middle of the island hates my system.

AMD R9 270x

Anyway, thanks for this.

The ONLY issue I have is the Grass? It keeps flashing on and off? IS there a way to get the grass to chill out? XD

I'll look in the mean time.

i just have grass off. set it to 0. but if u mean that while moving the camera, just the set the distance to more like 500. thing is that while u were moving camera to the side of the island it was pretty much rendering WHOLE island, which u absolutely dont need anyhow, setting it to even 1000 will probably be overkill cause i dont think there are places where u can see that far. 10000 is just stupid.

yeah I played with it for a while.

2000 will keep the grass on.

1500 will try to, but there will be small random times of no grass.

but I still can't play on servers that well, personal DB game, create a world. works omg like. 100+ FPS with EVERYTHING turned on and up, fx and all.

but going multiplayer online, and my fps is still crap, I'm going to try without grass online.

this should be brought up to the devs pronto. IF they could fix this, it would make a world of difference for everyone.

EDIT:
I set it to 800

Grass flicker, but it's w/e. I got 44-50 looking inland. Which is from 14.

ofc 80+ outland. so this is pretty nice, I have all the post fx on, DOF, and such is so nice.

Image

thank you so much for this!!!!

with FXAA and SMAA on I get around 35 fps.

well fix is increasing the drawing distance, i would call it ground flickering, not grass :D.

yyyyeeaaa..... that fixes like a couple fps. It IS useful, but no where NEAR as awesome fix as this is. XD

You have NO clue how much this could change the game.

40% of people that got this couldn't play it and was pissed, this could change all that.

This is seriously a HUGE improvement.

It's kind of strange that such an enormous issue absolutely everyone who is playing the game was experiencing for many weeks has such a simple fix. I assumed major adjustments needed to be made within the game, not a stupid line in a config file. Wtf.

Maybe there's another line in the config file that will make the game connect to a server in under 10 minutes.

the draw distance of the grass or the visibledistance? I tried putting the grass draw at 800 (in the config file) with my visible at 500 and still getting flicker :(

Also - this should be stickied as everyone can benefit from this AFAIK

grass has nothing to do with flickering, its the drawing distance which flickers, if u set it to low u cant see that far away anymore so it flickers, u decide what u need, less flickering and less FPS or more flickering and more FPS. set distance to 1000 and it should probably remove all the flickering.

It seems 1400 is the sweet spot for me.. gradually edited it upwards until the last slice of my turning radius did not flicker the grass/drawing distance.. again, thanks for this discovery :good:

Doing this gas helped tremendously with FPS under specific circumstances.

I can't lower the numbers too much without losing sight of the mainland if I look directly at it from the tiny island. I suspect the remaining issue may be caused by a problem with autofocus messing with render distance.

I will return to this when I am sober.

Install fraps and turn it on.
You'll see fps ion your screen ingame.

Lowering draw distance didnt help me, fps stayed at 5fps =/

Does this still work? When I change the .cs I get reduced visible distance but also a large circle around my character that nothing renders within, as if the only rendering is only taking place in a ring around the edge of the distance I set. Currently set at 1000.
