We can not add some items into Crates.
Example: shovel, glassblower toolkit ...

kinda copy paste my answer of a similar question/problem:

Just go to the official wiki and look up the item details:

lenghts means how big the item is and can only be placed in containers which can hold 4 or higher in lenght.

i just see that the lenght storage stuff is not on the wiki, maybe i will add it later there but that you get an idea how this works:

traders cart can store up to 7 (so even ore, soil etc can be stored)
chest can store items with a lenght of up to 4 (shovel, flax stems, boards etc)
barrel and crate can store only stuff which is 3 or lower afaik and so on

so yea, it is kinda messy right now to store stuff like boards, flax stems without the loot bags

Make Wardrobes if you can. 500 capacity and I haven't had any item storage issues with it.

My only issue with the current storage, well not only issue, is capacity. I know it can be modded locally but the default should be more.

Also need other storage options like a meat locker. The meat from 2 moose cannot fit in anything other than a wardrobe and I don't want my blacksmith outfit smelling like rotting moose



EDIT: Well apparently hares and chickens cannot be placed in chests nor wardrobes. Have anyone checked crates and barrels?

Just put some hares and chicken in a barrel, it works, crate I have not yet tried.

There needs to be an additional container in the game for storing flax stems. The wardrobe is inadequate and silly.

I store my flax stems in chests, and they stack nicely... still haven't built any wardrobes
