Cooking Disappointment

Post by Willbonney » 17 Nov 2014, 20:47

Greetings,

So I finally decided to give a go at making higher tier foods, as mostly I've stuck with fried beast or fried eggs.

There isn't much with cooking that you can actually make at the moment, but I made up some 100 quality Vegetable soup. Starting from 20 in the Hunger bar, I ate, and it only filled me up 50 points to 70. This is supposed to be an "advanced" recipe.

I then went about gathering up the ingredients for some decent quality fish stew, that came out 92 quality. Starting from 20 in the Hunger bar, it only filled me up 43 points to 63. This is a Master Recipe?

The more basic foods, like 75 quality fried beast, fills me from 20 to 95 every time.

Fried Eggs of 100 quality fills me 20 to 95 every time.

So more advanced food fills less, meaning it takes longer to procure the ingredients but you end up having to eat more of it. This is counterproductive, the Food Quality multiplier might be nice for eating the higher tiered stuff, but in my opinion it's a total waste at the moment.

Have you looked at how the "complex"/"advanced" foods effect your skill progression?
Sounds like your only thinking about how much it fill your hunger bar.

Read the wiki page about the hunger system:

But yes there is still a lot of balancing to be done in this game.

Oh no, as previously stated I noticed the Food Quality modifier go up to around 4.2 or so after eating 3 meals. My complaint was specifically higher "tiers" of food being significantly less filling.

In my opinion, it either should be reversed, or you get more meals per craft for the advanced stuff.

Similar to how it is now, Basic stuff gives you 1 meal, Advanced 2 and so forth, except Expert level should give 3, and Master should give 4.

At least this way the reduction in the amount they fill is offset by the amount you get per craft.

Yeah ok I agree with that.
Just that wasn't what your thread title made me think you mean.

At the very least hunger amout should be the same or lower for uncooked/simple food.
Getting more meals per craft is a good idea too though. As long as their weight is adjusted too.

I would also like another value added to food's tooltip, explaining how "complex"/" advanced" it is. Because the qulity is clearly not solely related to skill progression bonus.
Invisible values are hard and annoying to work with.
