Lagg spikes???

Post by Ghost_swe79 » 11 Jun 2015, 19:22

Hello everyone!

Me and some friends have rented a server a few months from blackbox ever since Proper patching” (c) is here! (0.4.1.2) our server have really and i mean REALLYY bad lagg spikes, as soon anyone using mining or are trying to use flattning, lower ground, up&downward sloap the server lags and frezzez, and noone can play under these circumstanses now. what is the problem or is it a soulution on the way anytime soon?? at this point if there is not anytime soon a fix for this.... there is unfortyntly no point in a renting a server anymore. Would really hate to do that becuse this is really one of the most fun and best games i have ever played so far....and exept for the lagg the game its self and the ide is fricking AWSOME!

There are multiple things that can cause Lag, but Lag is a network issue. What you are describing isn't Lag, but sounds like it may be a problem on the host.

This is something you should take up with the company renting the servers. How is it set up?
It's not an issue in the game code, but I've heard of rented servers not being set up properly and causing issues like this.

Well, there's more than one way to host a server. With LiF not having a native Linux client though, it's a bit limited.

Either you run it on a Windows platform, or you hack it to work in Linux. Since most server hosts are on Linux, this isn't good for games such as this where they haven't written a dedi server build.

Here's a few possibilities I've seen...

1. Dedicated Widows box. (Not very likely for BlackBox to be using this due to cost)

2. Virtual Windows boxes. (More likely, but still costly.)

3. Linux server platforms. (usually the cheapest, and most common as a result. This is what I usually host my servers on, but I have my own hardware.)

4. Running remote VPS on Linux. (Most likely what BlackBox is using for LiF hosts.)

For LiF, the first two are the best, because it can run the server naively. The latter two however, are going to be the most likely for a rented server service. Because you have to use Wine to "fake" windows in a Linux environment, you can easily run into issue. Especially when patching.

I'd be willing to bet that your setup is option 4, and the patch process corrupted some of the server files or database. Best bet is a wipe and a clean install in that case. Try the clean install first though, so you're not doing a wipe if you don't need it.
