Chat : global, local, guild

Post by Khan- » 29 Dec 2015, 15:02

Hi there !

After 1500hrs playing LiF with high populated servers, rp, pvp, pve servers, 600 skillcap, 3000 skillcap, x1, x10, x40 skill, only one language allowed, every languages spoken, foreigners allowed or not... I tried some kinds of servers...

Here is my feedback about the chat... which is simply a community breaker, a server breaker... then, a game breaker !

Everytime I played on a server, global chat is simply a drama queen chat.. "you killed me son of a b..." "you cheated ! this hole is a bug exploit ! you bastard !" and this kind of shit for hours... this is the first point about the global chat...

The global is also a wrong trade chat, people don't leave their camp, don't visit their neighboors, and this is killing the community, they chat about their incoming trade... then, everybody know what both guys or camp have... it's a simple way for spying people... we can understand their advancement, how their are playing, devloping their guild etc... that's wrong !

Default GUI has a 3 tab chat window... most of the newbies only watch system OR global, and don't care about local... everyday we read "XXX local"... and finally, they all talk in global... we don't need to read it... but we all do

Now, LOCAL !
This chat has a TOO close range ! we cannot read what people write within 6-7, killing this chat interest... clearly... even the voice chat has a farest range... but, personnaly, I cannot use the voice chat all the time, my wife sometime sleeps...

And, the missing one, the MISSING ONE.
the GUILD chat ! what we do.. "add XXX to steam -> chat with steam" and that's boring... why not giving a guild chat, even with a range ! 2 or 3 times the claim size ! that could be nice... people leaving this area couldn't speak with their teammates, but people staying in this area, working or anything else, stay in touch...

no need to create an awkward situation, where we can see a guy running to you, standing here for a sec, no move... writing a thing, that you also need to write, and making THIS situation... 2 guys waiting for the other one that is maybe writing or not... waiting for a sec, jumping, and then, running...

what we need :
- remove global chat
- giving a guild chat
- improve the local range
- guild chat could be only a "local chat around the monument"

global chat is not what u claim it to be on my server khan, i can imagen this being a issue on alot of server tho
we got 2players that just do random chatting in global when they are together bhut they are the only 2 , the rest uses local

local, i agree the raing is WAAAY to short, heck i see players running and i wouldent even need to shout in rl for them to hear me

guildchat wouldent hurt indeed, limit its raing... no point imo , not a bad idea eather

voip, i never use it myself, to lazy to talk nonstop and i got my audio turnd off , i lissen to music and use mumble instead (and mumble decrease the volume of other programs so i can hear them talk whit no problems)
that being sayd, quit some people actuale use it tho so yeah, perhaps slightly increase the rainge and put a extende raing on it when people are shouthing in there microphone?

Sounds good.

Would improve quite some things and promote roleplaying. I witness the same, many trades are talked about in global, local contact is only made when a trade agreement has been made.

Killing global would help.

Local range is indeed too short, with constant thought from me about just using shoutrange.
Better would be to have a new fourth range: Whisper - Quiet - Normal - Shout (and maybe yell?). Normal should be between the now normal one and shout, or maybe even shoutrange, shoutrange should be extended.

A guild chat for the claimrange would be nice too. After all, most use an out of game communication anyway.

A valid concern.
I always see the need for both, limited range communication, that not most people should hear, and long range communication, that can be used for example to reach the rider nearly trampling you down - at the moment he is long out of all ranges till you typed something.

Maybe a delay that gets higher the longer the range is, so High range is used more carefully and not all everday uses, but I haven't put much thought into it till you brought it up.
