I know almost every LiF player will be against what i'm gonna say, but IMHO there's a big part of a sandbox being mistreated (as often happens on mmos) and that's thievery.
i'm not talking about killing people for their stuff, that's banditry ofc, i'm talking about people spying preys, scouting for places to breach in and steal as much as possible with no victims.
atm this isn't possible cause of the Monuments, imho it's not that great mechanic: why shouldn't i be able to use a furnace on a claimed territory? you may answer that's god's will, but it's really bullshit. imho God should just prevent the destroying factor, not the usability.
as it is now, a thief roams around to find settlements and when he manages to find one, he can just kill anybody being there and loot their precious primitive tools, his stuff is protected after all. what i would love to see instead is people defending their furnitures, needing to build walls around their claim if they plan to have chests or barrels or tanning dryes or whatever around.
ofc houses would stay the same as it is now, being accessible just by the owner and its co-owners (well, a key system like in UO and mortal online would be great, but it's too much to ask maybe), but coops/barns/whatever is not a house, completely usable/lootable by anyone. it's realitic, imho is how life is really feudal. you have to prevent bad things.
think about someone scouting the woods, finding out there's a new settlement raising with walls already completed. if interested, he would patiently wait for the owner to open the gates and go out/in, and sneak inside (ala UO), deciding to hit or not the owner, perhaps he didn't hear him (thievery skill tree with nimble footsteps would be great), and steal everything from his coops and containers if around and outside of the house (if any). then he would have to find a way to go out. maybe climbing with grappling hooks, but only usable with a proper skill. a thief should be a precise "class" (or to make things easier, gates being able to be opened from anyone from inside).
or what if he notices someone building stuff with no walls around (maybe cause he's lazy or don't want to invest time in it), taking advantage of it to use that building he can't craft himself.
every possible scenario needs the thief to understand when he should proceed with such acts, studying his prey.
tl;dr
thieves should get some love, here is how imho:
1) every building (but houses, warehouses, keeps and gatehouses) is accessible by everyone even if on a claimed territory
2) every furniture can be used by anyone even if on a claimed territory
would be nice) proper thievery skill tree to make the Thief a proper class and not something every character can have
IMHO as it is now is really against the life is feudal and sandbox concept. i don't even want to be a thief, i just like people being able to feel real freedom. i loved thieves on UO and MO.
a monument, even if it's something to sacrifice stuff for, is almost like a proper safezone to me.
thanks for reading all of this if you did, hope a dev will take a look
