Serious, extreme FPS issues;

Post by Xitenic » 14 Aug 2016, 11:05

Hey everyone.
So, I got this game when it first came out, and had a tonne of fun, I remember that, back then, the FPS solution was to reduce the tree quality, and it was the go-to solution for the 99%.

Now, I've returned to the game for the first time in roughly 2 years, same problem... Different UI.
I've Google'd the problem, and have gone to every single post that I could find to fix such a problem.
I have done the following:
$pref::Camera::distanceScale = "0.1";
$pref::Shadows::disable = "1";
$pref::Shadows::filterMode = "None";
$pref::Shadows::textureScalar = "0";
$pref::Video::DisableReflections = "1";
$pref::Video::DisableShadows = "1";
$pref::Video::disableVerticalSync = "1";
$pref::Water::disableTrueReflections = "1";

I attempted to change the draw distance from the default 10k, to the recommended "250-500", or "2k", but any time I changed it, it screwed the game up.
My FPS is roughly 1-8, at most.

My specs are as follows:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
16GB RAM
Intel Core i5-2500k 3.30GHz. (Quad-core)
Dual-monitor;
The monitor I use this game on, is a 4K 3840x2160, 32-bit, 60Hz screen.
And I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660.

As for in-game options, I've ticked everything off (if it's a blue button, does that mean it's off? Or is it when it's red?), and I've lowered literally everything that I physically could to the lowest possibility, including the resolution, down to 1024 x 768.

Questions:
- How do I lower the tree quality, like I could before?
- How do I lower/remove the grass density?

Any and all help would be deeply appreciated. I'm starting to panic at this point.

Thank you all in advance,
- Xitenic.

Update:
Used "GPU Temp" to monitor the GPU when idle, compared to when I open LiF:YO.

I was testing a possible theory that perhaps the game was not using the GPU at all, using the integrated, and thus; little to no FPS.

As seen here, however: https://i.gyazo.com/451042e9f4f0ebdb7edfca4d630b3042.png

This is a screenshot of a little while of idle, and then roughly at the 1.5 minute mark, that spike is me launching the game... You can then see it starts to heat the GPU, with the core at a near-constant 100%, going as low as 98%, and memory completely spikes up, with little to no rest.

To then test whether or not it was the monitor, I then made the smaller monitor the main display, to force LiF to a smaller resolution, the results are shown here:
https://i.gyazo.com/e18a48eb7981addc79425bd12817fff6.png

In this screenshot, you will find the GPU temperature has gone higher than the previous screenshot, however, I was able to increase the textures to medium quality, and had roughly 30-45 FPS.

TL:DR;
Smaller screen, regardless of resolution = Better quality, better FPS.

Question remains;
Even on a massive screen, the lowest possible resolution, lowest possible quality, unplayable... Compared to a screen half the size, where I can go medium quality, highest possible resolution, and it's playable... Why two different results?

I'm not sure that old of a GPU will be able to really be able to drive 4K resolutions esp in gaming. Probably should upgrade the GPU to at least a 1060 or RX 480 both should be a little more than $200 and will at least be able to perform much better than something from 4 generations ago.

If your having trouble with low fps in big battles, it's because the game is currently broken and simply can't handle it.

It's been like this since the last patch, every battle bigger than 5v5 with a few horses included becomes a total slideshow of insane lag.

It basicly ruined a perfectly good war between multiple big guilds and left a server dead and unpopulated (Island of the Feudal Tribes)

This isn't just me, it's pretty much everyone on the last 3 servers I played, since the recent big patch.

Don't think there is any solution for this. I have recently bought gtx 1060 and i have the same FPS like with my old gtx 660... This game isn't optimized at all. I have 930h in this game and i have like 6 months of break but i think i'll wait 6 more. :evil:
