Chainmail Armor and Slashing Damage

Post by Varian » 27 Aug 2016, 07:55

Chainmail armors should be incredibly resistant to all slashing damage with the exception of the 'Light Chainmail' or the tier1 chainmail, everything else should be almost 100% resistant to slashing damage, and the only damage you'd receive is if you you were cut in the face on the tier 2 chainmail or 'Regular Chainmail' should of course be vulnerable to blunt and piercing. Chainmail has hardly any rewards for wearing it.

Plate has it's benefits, which is being completely resistant to slashing (only vulnerable in places like wrists and neck) and slightly resistant to all arrows that are not bodkin.

Even scale armor has great defense against piercing and some slashing. These are most of the armors that melee players use more oftenly. Except where naked people with large hard hitting weapons is still probably the most effective in some cases.

But if you're wearing chainmail, you shouldn't take much damage from slashing at all, if any. Any damage that you receive from regular slashing weapons should be transferred into small amounts of blunt damage, unless hit in the face.

This is a game though and some armors have to be lighter than others and for the sake of game balance, this lighter armor must have less resistance, as it is much more mobile.

What would be the point of plate armor if T2 Chainmail made you immune to slashing weapons?

In reality, warriors would aim for weak spots in armor, but this is almost impossible to simulate in a game, unless the whole engine was dedicated to it maybe.

The point of plate would be to protect you against missiles, and mitigate blunt damage better ontop of slashing immunity.

And it's not impossible to simulate certain weak points, plate armor is vulnerable at the wrists and neck in the game, this is proven.

Also, the game sells itself as realistic and should aim to achieve such.

And if we don't want to make some armor irrelevant then chainmail shouldn't be weak to literally everything except fisticuffs.

That's why 99% ppl wear full plate cuz armors in this game are unbalanced. :bad:

If you wear full plate, then you better be running away from anyone with a mallet, or Bec de corbin, as they demolish plate users. the whole point of armor types, is each type is better vs different damage types. the only unbalanced part currently is that the favorite weapons on non hardcore pvpers are slashing weapons, which are terrible vs plate armor, aka, the game isn't unbalanced, the players are.
