We need full patch notes!

Post by Deus-X-Incognita » 05 Dec 2016, 19:40

We have a lot on our server relying on calculations based on ingredients, or work time, etc.

Each time you stealth change something you put an arrow in our work.
With the last changes you nearly destroyed everything, but hey, we will work around it.

But now I hear more and more things that have been changed too, like copper for cooking pots, locks out of iron, etc.
Or new growing ways for plants.

Just start making full patch notes, then we do not have to figure out the game anew every patch.

You drive away all the players with that. One day a working farm, the other day a clueless farmer with dying cattle because he cannot grow the food anymore - and similar things.

=> Nice job breaking it devs.

Start writing patch notes. FULL Patch notes.

I don't agree with the agressive stance here, but I can't disagree with the point of the rant.

Patch notes are almost always lacking and some times, it can be huge things.

I can very much agree with the aggressive nature of his post. People don't play this as casual gamers for the most part, people put hours and days and months into a server just to have the devs break the game or change it to a near unplayable state based on what "they think is right".

Any decent developer knows to put detailed notes on what they changed if it affects a major part of what he is developing for, it's actually pathetic that it takes them so long to respond to the questions about the patch (none have been answered in a few days now) if they are not going to put the info into the notes, considering they are the only ones who know how it works.

With the limited playerbase their game has, their ideas for the game and their lack of information on the changes are making players quit, and that is not what they should be doing before the MMO comes out.

I can understand that.

However, the last requests for full patch notes (about 3-5, I am not sure) have been fully ignored, no patch notes and no answer to "why not?".

When you get a lot of work and question time dumped into your lap - as usually without forwarning - and you actually had already reserved that time for other projects for LiF, and its not the first time, then I get a bit angry .

Right Information is hard to get by.
The wiki gets wronger each patch, cause it needs constant work to keep the information current.
Questions get rarely answered.
Patch Notes the have all points covered would go a long way to keep the information avaiable. And its not that hard too, to write down things that you change.

For example:
Crops, trees and livestock growth now strictly depends on weather, which in turn depends on the season

Says nothing about how it works.
(Warning, just a guess from me:)
Crops only grow on sunny days, when it has rained at least 5 days before.
Livestock only get young when the weather is stormy, because then they will cuddle enpough
Trees only grow now, when there is rain for three days.

A few lines more, the points are known to the developers (since they wrote them), so its not hard, and suddenly you get from vague "something changed" to informed player.

I usually respect the "let them find out themselves" stance, but I don't want to figure something out the ninth time.
And since it usually becomes public knowledge when the first five people found out AND there is the way of having your own server to find it out the fast way - its just work again (For me starting my own server no needs about 20 minutes or so, when it doesn't crash on the way)

Cutting out that work with more information = more fun = more players retained.

Conclusion:
All that, and more, condensed led to the aggressive stance.
If it happens again, it will probably happen again.

It's true, it's very confusing that we have, for instance, Sharana posting patch notes and other valuable info, in place of the devs.

Eveything good on Sharana for sharing the infomation, but it's a strange system of communication.

Sorry folks for lack of certain information. We'll try to do better in the future and provide extended patch notes.
