This is for the old guys like me. If i am correct, lif map is 441 km² and UO map is 55.9 km².

With this info i made this proportion image:



If this is wrong, please correct me.

well, I have never seen this image of a map on the right corner.
But I can say, the LIF:YO map equals one square on the MMO map.

So you can say, that the MMO map is 49 times bigger than the LIF:YO map

Awesome, always wondered the size ofUO map in comparison. I always thought it was larger.. felt that way anyway! One thing for sure I havent played a game as fun as UO since LIF came out! Finally!! So excited for wave 1

You are correct, but he is referring to UO, or Ultima Online, thats why you dont recognize that map. Many players of LiF came from UO and as such there are a lot of comparisons in conversation on the forum, if I am not mistaken UO is one of Bobik's inspirations

Yes, just to clarify, its the "Ultima Online" map, since a lot of lif players came from UO because of the similarities, Bobik was a UO fan and made the perfect game on his vision, and that is why i am here too.

I don't think that is quite accurate. First off while you may measure both in Km's you don't know at what scale the two maps where designed.

1km on UO could = 2 KM on LIF or it could be the reverse. Without knowing that information it's impossible to do a proper comparison.

A tile in LiF is 2x2m and not 1x1m, but when you measure the distance the kms are still kms.

No I am not pointless. Scale matters and if you don't think so then you don't understand how maps and distances are figured.

If one map is 1/32 scale and one map is 1/1 or 1/8 scale then 1km on 1 map is not the same distance as 1km on another map.

It's a digital world. They can't pull a ruler out and measure the distance. Therefore there is a scale to compare it to distance in the real world.

I'm willing to to bet since you could walk from one end of Britannia to another in ultima online in less than 2 hours that it wasnt 55 kilometers in a 1/1 scale.

Furthermore you don't know what the foot speed of a character was in Ultima Online in terms of Kilometers per hour. It was never a consideration and so you can't judge if the distance really is 55km squared how long it would take to go from end to end. So you still can't judge the scale.

Bottom line is its not a very good comparison. It's fine if you don't like my opinion but I am more willing to stand here and be firm that my statement is more likely correct than you are since neither of us have the data to truly establish the accuracy of the comparison.
