AZERTY / QWERTY mix up

Post by Linbaba » 17 Dec 2016, 14:38

In most games I've played, using an azerty keyboard has been a bit of a pain in the ass.

I have gotten in the habit of using one of two methods :

1. Manually change the keybinds one by one (it's not that bad, there aren't that many, and I'm pretty much used to that).

2. Use a windows shortcut key such as ALT + CTRL to instantly switch my keyboard to a qwerty layout.

That's what I did (number 2) for Life is Feudal.

But I've encountered a problem which I never encountered in other games. I know how to fix it, so that's not why I'm writing here, but more like a heads up in case this has been overlooked.

After all, there are and will be people from all over the world playing, so it's just a case of ergonomics.

Basically method 2 works in the game, Z (w) makes me go forward and it saves me from having to manually bind the keys, except that if and when I want to use the chat, that method seems to not carry through to the chat UI.

So even though I'm in QWERTY layout like all good american kids, if I press enter to say something in chat, all of a sudden I'm back to AZERTY.

So like I said before, I got a fix. In fact, I got two :

1. manually rebind the keys

2. use that short cut key again for chatting and once again when I want to use the game UI. Basically, if I want to chat I switch to AZERTY and my Z does a Z no problemo, but then I can't move forward, because forward is W. So I use the shortcut agian and presto I can move forward, but if I want to chat again, I must use the shortcut again.

When multi tasking, this can get tiresome if not troublesome very fast, which is why I'll rebind the keys, and I recommend others with the same issue do so as well.

Still, wouldn't it be nice for, you know, this problem to simply not exist at all ? :)

There's only one game I've ever played that actually asked me whether I wanted to choose one layout or another, and I can't remember its name. Proof enough that it probably isn't and won't be a main selling point.

But still, ergonomic a?
