Hello all, I have read at the FAQ that on private servers the 'Claim Land' ability will not be implemented.

Does this mean that private servers will become obsolete eventually when the MMO gets released?

Right now we have a server, passworded, but we're playing/testing with 2 large groups on it before we go officially to public state. However, if the claim land ability will not be implemented ever on the private shards I am not even keen about setting it to public at all.

Anyone has some final word on this?

P.S. Would be a shame if the claim ability will be not implemented.

Unless someone can mod something YES, Private servers will become obsolete

currently its too easy for kiddies to steal buildings with loot, dig under, Glitch walls, and destroy all your hard work with very little effort

And if you and your friends forget to login and claim every 48 hrs s YOUR SCREWED

GOd for bid don't have a life or go on vacation. Let alone take a break, you loose it all

group claim will probably be usable in YO. Just not land claim mechanic. Group claim was even working for about 3 days one patch lol but isn't atm.

Group claim is different in that people in your group are able to access buildings that you have claimed. not much of a leap to be able to save that choice permanently much like the "set as home" works currently.

It wont be the full guild and land claim system, but will let you share access on the YO servers and in the MMO it will be useful on personal claims.

oh, its quite possible to mod landclaiming in. the only thing that has to be added is an additional column in the geo_patch / forest_patch database tables listing the character id of the person initiating the action. would be a very easy thing to add on on the devs part too.
without that though, we're down to guestemating who initiated the action and there is just no way to do that reliably.

the other problem is the fact that the gui isnt exposed (yet). this problem could be circumvented by using an external application (like a website) to manage land claims though

Won't become obsolete. There will still be updates and support for the LiF:YO servers, they just won't have some features enabled.

Guild structure (Band, Order, Country, Kingdom, and the Monuments) and thus the ability to claim land. That is a number of in game cells you can claim personally or as a Guild, and thus be apart of your Town/Kingdom.

Without those features, other things can't be enabled, like the creation of individual town laws, or any "RvR" or realm vs. realm PvP.

Likely some of the other features as well.

I would be very happy with a group/guild claim alone, having some castle gates claimed and only those in the group/guild can open it.

Must have some sort of guild list though on the private servers that generate some common group ID's
