Cheaper carpentry

Post by Loasmo » 24 Sep 2014, 05:42

Hi there,

I would like to suggest having a really rudimentary stool/chair to be buildable by just having wooden materials.
Also we need a primitive crate to be buildable by just using wood too. or just having a category "nails" and be able to use wooden nails for that too and metal for higher quality. since most of the furniture was build with wooden plugs/nails anyway back in the days.

Feel free to discuss :)

I agree with this completely. Even up to the period of the 1800's many small pieces of furniture were made with only wooden parts, mortise and tenon is the simplest way to produce sturdy furniture without screws or nails. http://www.livinghistory.co.uk/homepage ... dplan.html

is a good example of a bed made this way.

Even into the 18th century metal fittings were extremely expensive and the average person could not afford them.

Here is a very interesting discussion that somewhat refutes my statement on nails, good reading.
