I've been contemplating on getting this game for a while now and while I do have the money to purchase it, finding a server is another thing.

Is there any recommended server that I can join to that won't take advantage of poor little me?

I joined a fairly quiet official sandbox server.

It has about 15 players on it at a time. Everyone is friendly, everyone wants to trade or help out. Within 5 minutes of starting on the server I had a place new village to live in. So far I haven't encountered a single hostile foe.

So I'd suggest trying one of those out for a while untill you get the full hang of the game.
