Gunpowder?

Post by Wigster600 » 02 Mar 2014, 11:06

I know there's a feudal age setting but since there's going to be alchemy, why not gunpowder?

There will be alchemy mixes/potions that can be tossed.

If that's what you mean.. ;)

I'm just not so fond of gun powder weaponry like cannons or archebuses from an aethestical point of view.

Just because this is neither steampunk nor fantasy.
This is early medieval with in it's dirty rags, rusty armor and blades and the early age of steel.

If anything it's rather high to late middle ages. There are pictures in the media section depicting full plate armor for soldiers and horses that weren't used until the late 1400s at which time cannons and archebuses were pretty much established on the battle fields already.

But I too feel this game should be about our romanticized view of the middle ages where knights in shining armor fought against each other with swords in their hands, not be bothered by gunpowder age weaponry.

I feel LiF should have taken a specific century and stick to it (imo 13th century combines the best of all)

Steampunk is more to do with the advanced steam powered engines from the late 1800's to early 1900's

If guns were implemented then they would eventually replace everything else.

I think they are planning on putting in Greek Fire and other medieval incendiaries though.

Why would that be? It didn't happen in real history like that either until the rise of bolt action rifles. Up until WW1 swords and cavalry still had their place in war.

They could be made not as op if they have a slow reload, perhaps chance of misfires too.

It might be cool just to be able to have a petard or something to quickly bust down a wall/gate if you invest TONS of resources into it?
Maybe some hugely expensive cannon too?
I feel kind of ambivalent about this.

I'd prefer having Trebuchets, catapults and battering rams only. Those are pretty powerful weapons.

Gunpowder weapons could be implmented as siege equipment, high power, whilst balanced with a chance to blow up and killing nearby people.

Sure they could be. However I would the whole game appear less medieval-ish.
One the other hand: all of the equipment I've seen so far does allude to more late middle ages (1400-1500 AD) at what time cannons have been used.

This would be so awesome if they got the rights to the warhammer fantasy franchise now...

I also don't know why you brought up Warhammer and why this realistic, medieval game should care to copy their stuff...
