Notice Boards

Post by Drakotar » 25 Sep 2014, 21:25

Had an idea for a notice board prop, so village users can pin up paper with notices on for users when they are not online. Some snippets of information could be: New tasks, enemies, trade / items for sale.
Items added to the game could be:
  • Paper
  • Quills
  • Ink and ink bottle, ink can be harvested from squid, or animal blood.
  • Billboard item to be placed.
  • Nail and hammer, to post notices.

Something like this but obviously a lot more rustic, wooden and medieval, maybe with a tortch or too :D

What do you think? :)

I had a similar idea about road signs to settlements. Would need boards, nails, and post/branch. Only draw back to these ideas would be people just planting them for no reason with junk written on them. Possibly make it claim based so those only with enough claim can actually place the signs/billboards.

This game is totally based on community play, so notice boards are a must more than anything else... also signs should get in asap (road signs, building signs, etc)... it will definitely give more life to the game and help organise larger settlements. Just look at how important signs are in games such as Minecraft.

Definitely a great idea. This will also facilitate bounties. :)

Yeah road signs would be a must too so users can navigate. I was thinking of also adding a store sign that has a symbol like an anvil for blacksmiths, a plant for a herbalist, vase for a alchemist etc etc. With regards to griefing, maybe having different posting rights, for example: Free will - anyone can post notes. Limited - only selected players may post. Owner only - only the user who places the notice board can post information.

Exactly, store front signs like this would be awesome.

Had an idea that is along the lines of this thread, with a few extras. Firstly, new crafting items, already noted:
- ink
- quill
- paper
- noticeboard

Secondly, new skills
- acquire language x
- read in language x
- write in language x
- develop language x

Language x would be a language unique to a group. Anytime someone spoke or wrote in the groups language, anyone listening or reading who does NOT know the language would just see random characters. Acquisition, reading and writing of the language would be attained in the school. To develop a language a member of the group would have to achieve certain intellect related requirements, and to maintain the language someone in the group with sufficient stats/skills would have to hold a position "Keeper of the Word" or something like that.

Members of the group would be able to leave notices to each other on noticeboards that would not be able to be read by anyone but group members with the necessary skills.
