Observing and Terraforming

Post by Realsugartits » 21 Sep 2014, 04:32

I feel like you're supposed to be able to TERRAFORM while observing as that would be the best way of doing it. But it doesn't work. Thank you!

Don't find that necessary. You can simply observe and right after that terraform. When you make either observe or your prefered terraforming action default (by right clicking on the option) you can simply left click on the tile to perform said action. Makes it quicker.

As said in suggestions: Yes, that would be cool. Maybe with terraforming 90 you can make the grid stay for 1 - 2.

I digged a lot yesterday and it was a pain in the ass. It's okay if you work alone but with 2 or 3 guys digging it gets really frustrating ... imho.

TL;DR: +1 :D

Huh? Are you saying you wouldn't like to be able to terraform while observing? You like all the tedious menu hopping? I do hope you aren't a majority because I'd love to watch you terraform a 10x11 with a group of people if this is true.

- There should be terraform-buttons in the observe-mode.

- And there should be some admin commands for radius terraform.

- Tunnels by the way, should be smooth, it looks pretty ugly right now

I don't like the menu hopping but I think all activities should be performed in the normal view mode rather than the detached observe mode where you can't really move your character as you normally would. I would prefer to be able to set specific keys on specific actions, like pressing 1 for observe while pressing 2 will let you start digging immediately.
You can set specific actions as default but you need to change it every time while doing different stuff. That's unnecessarily clumsy.

As a specialist in architecture/masonry I concur. While I've gotten quick at it, it is unnecessarily cumbersome to constantly have to check and make sure you've got the right tiles.

I'm not looking forward to leveling out the grilling for keep.

This is a PvP game. You shoudln't be able to have such a good detached view.

I'd rather have a toggle that shows the observe mode all around you from first and close third person with all normal abilities, just the green/white/red tiles.

View is useless for combat. Especially since player models tend disappear unless right beside you.

What you propose is more op.

I could find ways of exploiting this view in combat I'm sure, as it is it's very useful for getting a birds eye view of your surroundings.

Then make this skill unavailable while in combat stance, so it'll put some additional time penalty on its use. Alternatively disable observe as soon as you equip a weapon or combat armor.

Seriously: Not doing such an essential and much needed thing just because someone might use it (as cumbersome as it is) for combat seems, and please forgive my phrasing, silly.

I understand why you would want to be able to terraform in observe mode but to me it seems to ruin game immersion and makes terraforming too easy. I agree that how it currently works is painful and needs to be improved. I'd just like to see the solution somewhere in between how it works now and being able to terraform in observer mode.

A small part of me kindof wants the observer function replaced with something more subtle, but it is incredibly convenient.

Completely the opposite seems extremely clunky to have to go to observe mode just to see the height of the ground which is the main reason for the menu hopping.
Either this or a tooltip like the target box that shows elevation after hitting x level terraforming.

How about at some skill level the height is indicated with a mouse over? Make it realistic like "slightly higher", "much higher", etc.

Pvp observe mode: ok u observe while I run u down with a horse or pepper you with arrows. Puhwease I like loots.

I like how it's done in Wurm. You need a skill to know exact height difference and you can enable squares grid to make borders more visible. Current implementation doesn't really helps that well.
