It is somewhat possible to be a solo player, and still be able to do almost everything the game has to offer, but I wouldn't recommend it, because it would be really hard and take a lot of time.
Since the skill cap is 400, which can be increased a bit with getting higher Intellect, it's hard to be able to master a profession while also being able to learn other skills to supply oneself with materials needed for that mastered skill.
But if one would go for a jack of all trades approach one would be able to supply oneself with a nice house, some iron tools, and maybe be able to maintain a small farm.
And if you have a second character you can delve into more professions that way too.
The huge downside is that you will need to do everything by yourself. As the nature of life is feudal is, you need to go through hours of grind to cut down trees, flatten land, dig a tunnel, gather seeds and all the other requirements to level up the skills necessary to do the stuff that really matters in the first place.
Also stuff that a guild of organized people would consider easy to produce would be hard or impossible to get without changing skills multiple times or have multiple characters and a whole lot of time.
And you wouldn't really be able to build a wall good enough to prevent intruders without ludicrous amounts of time and more land than what a personal claim provides, and not have access to the equipment necessary to fight people with good armor for a good long while (Maybe if you are pretty good at combat it wouldn't matter). Or fight large groups for that matter.
But if you actually want to trade with other people while playing in a remote area or live in a realm claim of one guild, which is a bit better than going full solo. You can ask other groups or solo players for resources and houses to be built, and maybe pay for security or rent for storing stuff in a guilds claim, while using a mastered profession to produce stuff to pay for it.
