Instance Battle Looting System

Post by Darkard » 11 Mar 2018, 17:12

Ok, so anyone who has been in an instance battle of any considerable size (and with multiple guilds) will know that looting at the end is some mad scrabble to pull out something that's not arrows in a "needle in a haystack" system of inventory management.

Rather than is why dont we change it to something more akin to the "look for..." abilities that have been introduced recently.

At the end of the fight players can interact with a ground tile and perform the action "Search Battlefield". This, after a short action period would spawn a number of loot piles, visible only to that player. Players can then pick out these loot piles and pluck their loot from there.

The loot piles will take a certain amount of items from the main inventory. The items will be pulled from the main inventory based on a set value per pile (for example, 20 golds worth), with tabards, arrows, bolts, and other ammo being given a maximum number per loot pile, to ensure you don't get 500 arrows in a single loot pile and nothing else, unless of course thats all thats left in the main inventory.

In order to give players an indication of what's left in the main inventory, system chat can present a message based on the highest value item you have found:
"You have found rich pickings" for a high value item
"You have found a reasonable value of loot" for average value items
"You have found only scraps" For low value goods.

If the player does not like the loot they have found or they don't want to take anymore of what had spawned, they can do another "Search Battlefield" action to spawn new ones and return the items left in their loot piles back to the main inventory. However this obviously means that they are less likely to find good items as they may have already been taken by other searching players.

This makes looting a little fairer for people and a bit more immersive.
Hopefully this also gives the visual impression that players are actually picking over the battlefield for loot rather than it being a medieval black friday where a wooden stick is handing out goods
