Alpha Test Footage

Recorded a bit last night when I jumped in before bed. Make sure you watch it on Youtube and not this mini video so you can use 1080p.

Nice video BTW!
And you couldn't fit armor in sack because there is "length" parameter on all containers and items, so you can't fit fullplate cuirass into small pouch :)

Thanks for vid. Looks really promising.

- Skill window - perfect. All skills with their levels in one window, no pop-ups, no scrolling - great!. clicking certain skill shows perks on levels, and all additional info... again without scrolling/pop-ups. Simple and intuational. Good thing for sandbox, because this type of game is hard without unnecessary UI weirdness. This will be even more intuitional when all icons for skills are implemented.

- Inventory - Can't say I like the idea of items covering other items in backpack (or maybe it just looks like they can cover each other). Might be useful for maintaining screen space (if it will be possible to decrease backpack window).

- Animations - for first public alpha release, the swinging and unsheathing a sword are great.

Waiting for more footage from next alpha tests.

Im assuming the poor frame rate was due to the person recording, not the game itself?

I recorded some terraform footage too, but had family stuff all day for Christmas also had power outages at my house so just now getting a chance to start the upload.

@Vansar: The inventory is very similar to Darkfall. It is quite easy to organize your main inventory window with separate bags for things such as armor/weapons/tools. I kept PvP bags ready in my bank on Darkfall so all I had to do was grab one bag out of bank and go fight.

@Red: I'm not sure about the frame rate problem. I was running around avg of 7 and when I turned Fraps on would drop to 4.

If this is how the game runs on your machine you really shouldn't be the one making videos :/
no offense, but to most people this isn't going to be very positive media.

Its hard for me to really tell whats going on. But thanks for posting something for those of us who have been busy during the holidays.

Intel Core i7 CPU 2.8GHz, 12288MB RAM, GeForce GTX 560 TI. I guess the video might be a little choppier then it was in game but according to my Fraps fps overlay I was getting 7 when not recording, and 4 when I was recording. If you can tell me how to increase quality of the video somehow I'd be happy to try it. Also if you aren't watching in 1080p you are doing it wrong. Maybe people who also were able to jump in the alpha server can post what kind of FPS they got?

It's all because of debug build of client and server and because we did 0 render optimizations at current stage so far. So don't judge yet ;)

I came in and trashed your tunnel. Then fell through the world as punishment.

You should go futher in mountains - then you would see how tunneling works with different substances (rock, ores, granite and such). You were just diggin in the dirt :)

Mmm, terraforming. <3

Just like Bobik said, not much of it in this vid, but I really like it. Most of my terraforming experience comes from Minecraft, which was childish and not-funny for long-term playing, and from Wurm, which is really archaic and not-so-fun because of "fake 3d world".

The idea of tunnels of different heights make me lust for this game even more. How about showing some terraforming on surface (if it's there yet, of course), raising/lowering ground, flattening etc. Would really appreciate it :)

Nice vids mate, thanks for sharing. I wonder what the limitations will be on landscaping... I remember in WURM trying to cut a winding tunnel down through a mountain (like the downward spiral) and the moment my mineshaft ended up in the same square as a previous piece of tunnel... bam. The whole thing became one giant hole in the ground. Was a game mechanic thing, not even really a physics thing imo; and I wonder how LIF handles such things :)
