Animal Lore

Post by MinorityMats » 21 Sep 2014, 21:01

So has anyone actually managed to raise their animal lore yet? To me it seems that no matter how much you feed your animals in the coop, you can't clean or harvest in order to get skill.

Add more? Don't know what to say.
I am not a huge fan of this feature either, but have had very limited time to test it my self.

Not sure on what to say as to why yours are taking so long. That said, it's still a painfully slow skill to raise and a major roadblock for a lot of players. Every cleaning is about half a skill point and every harvest is one skill point. Most bigger villages run 5+ coops.

Seems nails, rope, and glue are incredibly critical items in the crafting process and where just about every village gets stuck waiting. I'm confident the devs will balance this with time though, for now, the focus is squishing bugs first.

Not to derail the thread, but I'm surprised nails are such a critical point. Seems like the devs would have heard of Ikea (or the reality of medieval times) and implement some wooden joints & pegs in place of nails in some of these recipes.
Sometimes reading forums or global chat is like reading a book called "Baby's First Game Test". Does no one understand the concept of early access alpha testing? I swear, 'some people's children...'

I have the same problem. Sometimes the meter gets up to 5% then I check again and it's back down to 1%. It's seriously broken. I wonder if this has to do with a previous patch save. Maybe I need to start a new game with every patch.

The reason animal lore is very hard to level is because catching and tamming animals isn't in the game yet, yes you can set traps but that is for hunting/fishing not animal lore. If you go to lif-base.com and search for corpses you will see hare and grouse(chickens) corpse meaning that at some point they will be out in the wild and can be killed or they can be caught and tamed for you to put into a coop. Also breeding dosn't look finished since we can't use the breeding pens. Now one reason I belive there is two skill trees that can catch animals is because animals are a strain on the server with a lot of people so the snare can catch animals that are there but don't have to be rendered so when an area becomes so over populated that animals do not spawn they can still he caught. Anyway I could be wrong on some of this stuff but it seems that is the direction it will go.

Needs to be over 20%.

20% is the key then, i saw that in the patch they're letting rabbits reproduce before dying as well, bonus :)

Well, I had 6 animals die from old age and they only had generated 3% dung, which wont let me clean the coop.

Bone glue should not need this level of research.

Agreed, if anything it should be under alchemy. My favourite is I need leather to make most of the types of armour, so it could also be argued it should be under blacksmithing skill trees as well.
It does not matter who is the strongest fighter, just the last one standing.

necro much lol.

relax. Wild horse, Boar, Sow, Mutton, Aurochs bull, Aurochs cow are all yet to be implemented and if you notice on the tool tip for animal lore are all tameable at animal lore 0. So that will be the main method for raising animal lore.
