Giving armour an absorption rating as well?

Post by Maegfaer » 19 Oct 2014, 16:59

Since Mount & Blade is such an inspiration to Life is Feudal's combat system, I think it would be a good thing if, like in M&B, damage calculation would make use of both a damage absorption (an absolute value) and a damage reduction (a percentage of the remaining value after absorption) value for pieces of armour. It would allow for a much more realistic simulation of different types of armour's protective capabilities.

Performance-wise it would only add a tiny bit of load, since the absorption value only needs to be calculated once, for example when the armour is equipped, and then that value only has to be subtracted from the incoming damage. I'm fairly sure it's a lot easier for a typical ALU to calculate a subtraction than a percentile reduction.
