I haven't quite figured out prospecting. When I select prospect for iron it gives me the option to choose the radius, anywhere from 2 to 100. When I do detect ore, how do I use that information to zero in on it?

You basically triangulate the position of the deposit.

Take a prospecting reading, get result at 12 units.

Stay in place, and scan again at 10 units.
Decrease the radius until you do not get a reading.
Then reset to the last setting you recieved a reading on.
Move 2 tiles in any direction and scan again, if you receive a reading begin relating the steps listed above until you can get the reading within 2 units.
If not, return to original tile and move 2 tiles in the opposite direction and begin scanning there.

Keep repeating the steps above until you receive a reading within 2 units. If you cannot get a reading to within 2 units, it is probably a subsurface deposit, so start tunneling in the direction you found it closest at earlier.
