How is LIF doing update wise?

Post by Asdever » 17 Feb 2015, 15:40

Hey there, when LIF got released I rushed and purchased the game without thinking about that it still was (and probably is?) in early alpha. I tried to play it, I atleast put 5 hours into it before I quit, It was simply "too alpha" for me, everything was so time consuming and it felt incomplete (well obviously) and clumsy IMO.

So my question is how its going development wise? If there's have been any big changes to the game and If I should reinstall the game. What do you guys think?

LiF is a MMO. nothing in this game will ever be quick, We play Life is feudal: Your Own

It is the same as the Life is feudal: MMORPG with a few things missing, no mini games and map limited to 3km x 3km map size with 64 players hosted by other players or private servers (couple more features missing but I'll let you look for them.

This version LiF Your Own is just that, you can host your own server and change a number of things, when setting up the world in the config (steamapps\common\Life is Feudal Your Own Dedicated Server\config\World 1) you can change how long a day is, how fast crops and trees grow, how fast your animals breed and your skill cap so you can max out all skills (turning it into a single player if you lack friends that own the game) you can even change how fast you gain skills.

It doesn't end there if you set up your own server you also get to change how fast you do tasks in game, you can get a branch from a tree in a second for example by editing the skill_types.xml file.

But the end of the day the game is designed to take a long time, no point in a MMO where you max everything out within a hour of playing, this will take a days of solid game play to max each skill 0-100 and can be found in game info

Minimum grind

Skills are measured from 0 to 100. Reaching skill level 90 will be relatively easy (2-5 days of “powergaming” or few weeks of relaxed evening gaming) and will give access to full powers in a skill. Reaching skill level 100 will take a HUGE amount of effort and will not provide you with any in-game advantages except titles and something you can show off to others to be recognized and worshiped.

I just hope they can keep their promise of releasing MMO by summer time. I don't want another game with devs making promises they never accomplish or even worse abandon their projects and leave us gamers with hopes that maybe someone else will make that one special sandbox rpg.

Slow down champion, MMO release was never planned for summer 2015 :p

I think it's planned for the end of this year.

Maybe it was a dev mistake or something. I know there where multiple topics about that. When the game came out and the community wanted to know when will the MMO come out I have seen only one answer summer time. It might be a little to soon, but with the progress right now I am really worried about my investment I hate throwing cash away I paid good money for this game and I want to see some real progress. Unless there is a big surprise update coming out and please don't talk about the recent updates because that is just sad. I understand this is a small dev team but are they working on this game full time or is this just a part time thing?

You guys that are here since... how much time ? A few months ? Dare to say it's taking too long ? Some people have been waiting for years, I'm waiting since february. This is not an easy game to develop, and it won't speed if it up if you guys keep bitching about how fast updates come out. They work on this full time, and for what they offered to you guys who bought YO, the price was not much, even if it takes some time before it is delivered. Make constructive suggestions & criticism, and have patience. If you don't have patience, this game is not for you on the first place anyway.

What would you consider constructive criticism if you will attack someone for saying that updates are coming out too slowly?

They are.

Not because they are necessarily working slowly, but because they are making a very common new-team mistake of investing the full team into core elements (the guild/claim systems at the moment most likely)

Thanks to games like WoW and pretty much every FB game there is, the gaming community has lost its capacity for patience.
Unfortunately, that means games that don't Show ready improvements in development are often abandoned. Even if the reality is that the developers were working well ahead of schedule - but were working only on the more vital aspects of the game, and not those they could release quickly for players to 'see.'

They really need to set aside a few man-hours each week for 'rapid updates'
There are dozens of things in the game players are complaining about that can be fixed by a single programmer in less than an hour individually.
The inability to return to the menu after exiting a server is one.
A simple clear and drop would fix the issue, and could be done by an entry level programmer in from 10 to 20 minutes depending on precisely how they pack the data for a session. Treble it for debugging and in one hour you have a weekly update to fix a problem many of the newer users complain about.

Notice, I am not suggesting they change focus, but that they invest Some quantity of time into a regular update, even if it is on very small things (treeing defaults, verifying the close of audio at the termination of an action, etc)

As long as the players can see and actually experience improvement to the game, it isn't as important if the improvements are trivial or cosmetic, as it is that they know things Are, in fact, advancing.

Just saw that the Guild claim update is now 90% complete up from 65%. Not long to go now!

I would dare to agree here.

I played on a popular server for months with some of the most dedicated players and admins i've ever seen. 12 to 14 hours a day everyday.

That server is dead now. Greatly in part by boredom. Lack of "visual" changes. I'm not bashing the devs or anyone. But I truly believe if small updates were thrown out more regularly, like the quern stone not working, the server would not have died.
