I am having troubles with seeing any tracks when I track peaceful/aggressive animals. I have read a few posts in different sources that point to a possible bug they are mostly from early 2015 so I would imagine they were worked out.
I turned off grass, and I even re-painted the footprints.png red but nothing. I am searching in hills, plains, forests, everywhere.
Its (again?) bugged since the release version (it worked before, but seems to conflict with the new graphics or something, I don't know), its listed - several times - in the bug tracker, and has been confirmed by the developers.
Its frustrating, but they are surely working on a fix for this. I have heard that the steps might exists some 100 tiles away, but haven't found any myself till now.
A quick jog around the island - or a ride - can find quite a lot of beasts when done in the daytime. Just try it, I do all my hunting that way and I get quite a lot of meat and bones that way.
I am starting a new world since the one I had I could not find an animal to save my life (which is why I was trying tracking). I hope I have better luck on the one.
Speaking of which, do you know of a mature/helpful PVE server (US)? I like the crafting, building and exploring aspect but don't care much for attacking or being attacked. Would be nice to play this game with other folks and learn.

Sorry, I haven't tried any US Servers. Be sure that you have a high number of animals on the server, but I have no real idea how the spawn rate is on a personal server.
