Flux, Herbalism, and Alchemy

Post by Maitri » 12 Jun 2015, 10:27

So, herbalism is the main skill required to get the almighty Flux ingredient as most know is the biggest hurdle to overcome in order to manage bigger buildings and the like.

What I'd like to know is what 60 Alchemy does? It says it's required to make Flux, Flavor, and explosive Naptha however the main one I am interested at 60 (as 30 has the same fringe benefit: potion making with 2 ingredients, 1 catalyst) is the flux.

Is it different in any way? Is it more potent? Why would I care about this?

Flux is made with herbalism not alchemy, but if you work in a team, most members can just work up gathering and pass over the herbs to herbalists. Alchemy is for making potions.

Then why does it say in-game as well as on the wiki that alchemy is the one used for this?

See? What the hell? Is there a point to it beyond leveling up alchemy?

For making flux you need herbalism. Wiki have a mistake.
Alchemy is for making coctails (potions).

Alchemy as now is currently pretty usless.

The only potions/cocktail you probably could use are Soft/Hard Stamina regeneration and perhaps Soft HP.

Rest is useless and the fact that there is still no auto craft option for the Kiln despite the amount of stuff you need from it is even worse.

Also, the catalysators still don't work.

When did catalysts stop working? Even before cocktales, they would increase quality in what was made with them (flux for example).

I haven't played since I binge played for a couple months right after the game was released. I can't say if it was through alchemy or herbalism, but I can say I viewed catalysts increasing the quality of reagents made with them. I only remember because I was searching and experimenting very hard, only to discover nothing an alchemist made besides flux was useful at the time.

All I am saying is for the first couple months, catalysts increased quality of what was made if thrown in the catalyst slot while mixing herbs.

Maybe they broke it since, but it worked.

To the OP:

- You can make flux in herbalism and in alchemy, it all depends on what tool you use to mix the herbs. If you use mortar you get herbalism skill points for making flux, if you use alchemy workbench/shop etc you will get Alchemy skill points instead for mixing the herbs.
- Catalysts work perfectly well - however for each effect only one catalyst works, you have to find the matching one. Catalysts have 2 effects, one positive and one negative; no two catalysts share the same effect.

Hi

Looking for help on catalysts.

I've got my herbalism over 95, alchemy is 65.

I have collected 12 different organic catalysts through slaughtering and killing different animals. From reading through the forums it appears that catalysts have 3 properties like herbs and that they only combine with herbs that yield a specific effect.

So to take an example: herbs x and y both have the property of restoring hard stamina, combining them either yields that preparation if a mortar and pestle is used or a potion if the alchemist's table is used. I have tried dropping in each different catalyst in turn into the organic catalyst slot in turn but it rejects everyone. Have done this both using mortar and pestle and table

What am I doing wrong?

thanks in advance

The first slot is only for mineral catalysts that's why you can't use it. You can't use biological catalysts till you hit 90 alchemy.

Also as far as I can tell (alchemy 70) they only have two effects not 3 per each one, thought they are harder to find out what they do.

So right now I am only using them to increase the quality of known effects..

Example: I have 2 herbs the do HHdam both at 30 quality. I have an unknown catalyst that is 99 quality. I put all 3 in their alchemy slots mix them my potion will be around 50q
