Soundtrack

Post by Jezbelle » 29 May 2014, 09:46

Any kick ass game needs kick ass music. Or maybe this game has no music?

I really like the theme you guys have right now, but I can't listen to it for too long without getting mildly tired of it. I understand its probably temporary, too.

Have you guys considered hiring Stephen Rippy to compose the final soundtrack? He did the soundtrack for Age of Empires 2. He could draw from that to create something similar for you guys in the "medieval" theme.

I have listened to this soundtrack for years on repeat (playing the game) and have never grown sick of it. It is revered by gamers.

I for one get tired of ingame music pretty quickly, so I generally turn it off.
In some games I let it run because it's quite rare to appear anyway, like Skyrim or Chivalry.

AOE2 and it's expansion probably has the best soundtrack ever made, I just never get tired of listening to it. Medieval total war and Crusader Kings 2 also had very good medieval type soundtracks.

The music is no doubt very important in any game and I would of course love to see Stephen Rippy composing the sountrack but I don't know how realistic that is, with the budget and all.

my favorite,

:From Stronghold Soundtrack:

Something about the chanting and the sound of blacksmiths forging in the background.

BATTLE TIME!

My choice of battle music
Guess the choice depends on where you grew up I guess.

But really though, isn't Bobik Russian? I mean my bloodline goes back to Russia although I am American does that count? him and I might be related? :P

He might prefer something along the lines of:

A more Russian tune I think.

I really hope so, by your comment I see that you don't know very much about authenticity. :good: Boring, and dull soundtracks for old games, way to go...

I am aware of "Pride," "Culture" and "Authentic," but I am also aware that many medieval era games had to improve on that "Shit" for a reason. Can you imagine marching in to battle listening to that? You could expect to get slaughtered. I imagine its a culture thing though, no disrespect intended, but that link doesn't do it for me.

(Culture) Like bag pipes, as an example. They sound silly to me, they literally make me start laughing when I hear them maybe because I think of men in skirts/kilts along with it but it still does regardless. but If I was Irish or another Culture that uses them I would probably think they sounded cool as I would of grown up hearing and seeing them.

(Pride) And even if I didn't like how bag pipes sounded or kilts looked, If I was Irish I would respect them anyway.

(Culture)Another example, my wife is Mexican
When I hear mariachi music it makes me laugh also,

(Pride)But for my wife she grew up listening to it and even though she doesn't care for it much, it reminds her of her parents and makes her happy.

Keep in mind I am American, we Lack Culture as most of us came from all over the world, we do have a great since of "Pride" however

Well, I've never grown up with bag pipes either, but the fact is that it was an instrument used in the whole of Europe and the Middle east, ppl tend to get stuck in Scotland all the time. Music (in my opinion)is best when it is actually trying to recreate the "real" feeling of something, and this time it's about the Middle Ages. I guess computer bades soundtracks that solely are made for computer games aren't my cup of tea. I can see why bagpipes may sound silly to some, but personally I think it is the exact opposite.

Medieval Feeling

Post by Svarog » 06 Jun 2014, 18:51

Im making this thread because I really think immersion is big part of every game. So that is why Im suggesting these soundtracks to be added ingame if possible ofcourse. Please take a look at it. They are from old game called Knights of Honor developed by Bulgarian Black Sea Studios (now Crytek Black Sea).

They are by far the best medieval music Ive heard in my life. If its not possible to add them atleast show them to your artists they will get so much inspiration from them, trust me!

Bard's Tale

These four are my favourite but there are like 20 of them , please check out full playlist here:

I know that chances are slim and this is not your priorty right now but still I think this is pure gold right here.

Some nice pieces there.
I remember that game well :)

I have told Bobik and team earlier that I will be donating music for the game - in addition to the music I created that is already in the game.

It will of course be in the same style as the music I created so far for the game. But the pieces I am donating will be a few pure medieval styled pieces, and a few orchestra backed pieces in medieval and Celtic styles. Both in the soothing atmospheric styles - and more dramatic ones ;)

I hope they will fall to your taste when the time comes.
I will definitely remember your good taste as reference when it comes to inspiration

As far as I know the Dev team are not going to add any more music to the game at this stage of development, but might do so later on towards steam early access release. And probably towards the full release. But nothing is written in stone - not even written in sand, on the shore...

The idea of a full soundtrack has been aired as well - but the Dev's are nowhere near any part of the games development to make any assumptions or take that thought any further yet.
Time will show.

But that might have changed since I last discussed this topic with Bobik. I guess only he can answer that to full extent ;)

I am donating a few pieces anyway to show my support - so we will see if Bobik and team like them and will use them ;)

When it comes to using those pieces you presented in the game - that can be a problem, as they are protected by copyright and using them would require the Dev team to work out a deal with the owner of the said works.

It might be very possible that they are still bound by the deal created when composed for Knights Of Honor.

You have clearly seen that there is suggestion for in-game music, why did you have to create separate thread?

I have merged it with Jezbelle's thread.

You can't just create multiple threads of exact same subject as another one especially when you are aware of its existance just because you want your own thread, that classifies as spam and is very unwanted here, so please avoid such actions, thanks. ;)

Just remembered one song from Two Worlds II , ahh so good.

Imagine this in central city , you just came from dangerous trade run , you know you are finally safe you are approaching your house and just want to relax while this plays in backround.

Play with me, my fellow!
